CSULB vs SJSU — I’m stuck 😭 (housing, social life, independence??)

Hi guys, I’m a senior from LA trying to decide between California State University, Long Beach and San José State University and I’m honestly stuck 😭 I was admitted for Communication but I’m planning to switch into interior design and eventually build my own business (like combining design, branding, and entrepreneurship), so I care a lot about both opportunities and overall lifestyle. For CSULB, the pros are the location (near the beach, LA, so much to do), the campus is beautiful, and it has strong programs and a creative environment, but I honestly don’t love that it’s so close to home because I feel like I won’t fully get that independence or “new chapter” experience, and the housing situation is stressing me out BAD since it’s not guaranteed and I really want to dorm, plus the campus is huge and I feel like I’d get lost and I’ve heard socially it can feel kind of quiet or commuter-heavy unless you really try. For SJSU, I like that it’s far from home so I’d actually be forced to grow and be independent, and being in Silicon Valley seems really good for internships, networking, and future business opportunities, and everything is close together with stuff always happening downtown, but the area can feel a little unsafe at times and I don’t know if I see myself there for all 4 years or if I’d get bored. Overall I want somewhere I can live on campus, build a strong friend group, have a fun social life (not crazy but like I want to go out sometimes lol), and also set myself up for my future, so right now I feel like CSULB = better vibe, campus, and lifestyle but risky housing and too close to home, while SJSU = better independence, opportunities, and growth but environment concerns, so if anyone has honest experience with housing chances, social life, or design/business paths at either school I’d really appreciate it 😓
