From Prison to the Front Line | A short documentary how war cast people from one system were cast into another.

Women who were once prisoners are now serving on Ukraine’s front line.

In 2024, Ukrainian prisoners were given the opportunity to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Around 12,000 prisoners signed contracts. Among them were more than 200 women.

Five of them became Mavic drone pilots — the “eyes” of the infantry during assaults. This documentary explores war, guilt, discipline, survival, and the idea of a second chance during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Frontliner followed these women’s journey from prison to the front line.
