Original Cheese Ramen at Tsukumo Ramen Ebisu Honten

I was a little hesitant, but this shop sounded more desirable after a few cocktails.
The freshly grated cheese ramen hit the spot before crawling into the hotel bed.
If you look closely, you might notice that this bowl contains cheese.
Glad we visited.

Miso and niboshi are my favorite types of ramen, but if I had to only choose one… it’s miso for it’s ability to effortlessly warm the soul. I really don’t have anything to add to Sumire’s legacy that hasn’t been said already: it’s incredible. Loved adding from the ordered side of spice throughout the meal to be in full control of the heat level and flavor change.

Photo is terrible. This was by definition point, shoot, slurp.

With a side of baby sardines rice.

This bowl was lip smacking delicious. Such a wonderful balance of pork, niboshi, and seabura that scratched my brain in a way that I’m still thinking about. The rice side was also great!

Solo mission while the wife was getting a manicure.

*Excellent* tsukemen in Shinjuku. The cold noodles were prepared perfectly and the soup struck a wonderful balance between niboshi, chicken, and pork. The shop itself was a lot of fun, with the staff going above and beyond welcoming and thanking guests. I would return here in a heartbeat to try the regular ramen, or hell, just eat more tsukemen.

Been looking forward to this bowl for months and it did not disappoint. The shop owner is also a character and watching his wizardry is an experience within itself. Next time you find yourself in Sapporo, treat yourself and do your best to be in the queue by 21:45.

Bonus experience points due to the couple that were in the queue even before us and were demanding vegan ramen 😂

Ordered at spice level five: Mind Over Matter - Futatsu Falls

Loved the bright, citrus flavors that Afuri is known for with a heated twist. Would definitely go back… maybe knock it down to spice level four or three next time. Level five wasn’t completely unbearable, but I needed to put my game face on and did feel I was maxed out lol
