Hello! I am visiting with a small group from Ontario. We are here through a University program and we only have this weekend free to experience Yellowknife. I am a mature student and mom, who very rarely gets an opportunity to travel and I am so excited to see a part of Canada I've never seen before.
Last years students got to participate in schools where students were being taught skills like skinning animals and tanning. Unfortunately our timing this year has us missing these unique learning experiences. We seem to be here at the time of year where most winter activities have ended and the summer ones haven't begun. I was really looking for forward to learning new skills or having experiences in a location I've never been (and may never have the chance to again).
We will be touring a few museums, hiking, and driving to see the lights but I really want to have a unique experience while I'm here. I thought fishing would be fun but I've heard ice fishing is done for the season, dog sledding too. I would hate to come all this way for a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and to leave without trying anything.
Does anyone have a suggestion of something we could try or someone we could contact that would offer an interesting experience unique to Yellowknife?
Thank you in advance! Everyone is so helpful and kind here! We are enjoying the city already from what we have been able to see so far!
