Getting My Clumsy Mum an Older iPhone

So, mio sweet sweet madre currently uses an iPhone 16 Pro (they’re quite expensive in my country) as her daily since the last one or so year.

I can swear to god she is the most clumsy person in the family and the extended one combined. She has used multiple handsets including Android ones and there has not been a single one that hasn’t suffered the wrath of her recklessness.

Expected as it was, yet again she slapped her phone off the dining table. No green lines like Android, no shattered screens like in most cases. 70% of it just disappeared, just vanished into the event horizon of no return. Cost us a bang to have that boy repaired despite doing so at a local shop (they offered to replace the screen at approximately half the price quoted by Apple).

All these years of clumsiness, they make me wonder now if I should just get her an old 2nd hand base model of some old iPhone to use when she’s at home, following her daily routine and tending to her garden like a mad man on a mission? That way, even if she is unfortunate enough to make this one suffer the same fate as well, it being lighter (relatively at least to the Pro and Pro Max models) or being housed in a rugged case should probably make it be able to endure the fall, or even it ends up being scratched/shattered a bit it can still function the way it was intended to.

Both the phones could be linked to the same Apple ID enabling her to receive calls, have her contacts synced and steps counted when on the same WiFi.

I just wanted to know if I’m overthinking this, or if it’s a good idea? If it is, are there any models I should specifically be looking at?

An SE seems lovely for such a use case is what I could gather, hence the reason for this post being here.

Thanks for reading through! ✨

P.S. I’ll add an informative TLDR; If it’s requested. I don’t wanna use AI :p

▲ 6 r/GooglePlayBooks+1 crossposts

Beginning of this year I switched to an iPhone 15 from my Galaxy S21FE. I have always used Google Play Books on my phone to read all my books since the idea of having an e reader never really struck my mind as a lowkey broke student.

So, being on Android all these years I had grown used to having all sorts of pretty widgets placed all over my home screen and subsequent pages. The convenience was nice to have!

The support for all Google apps on Android seems to be top notch and it makes sense, but now it is definitely shocking to see absolutely no widgets on iOS for it. Like, what exactly is stopping Google from adding a few basic widgets for PB like they have for YTM and Gmail on iOS?
