I acquired these lamps and would like to clean them up and find the right kinds of shades. Does anyone know what these would have used? Thank you in advance!

I picked a pair of these end tables up and am interested in restoring them. It appears that the finish has peeled up and the veneer underneath has developed a bit of a grey patina. When I chip away at the finish what is underneath is still a rich wood tone.

Once this table is stripped and I lightly sand it, will the grey disappear? Or would it be better to put a new veneer over this section of the table? Does the answer change if I decide to stain the piece a darker color? Regarding the second picture there is a small chunk of the wood missing. Would I fix that with bondo or something like plastiwood?

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!
