Currently driving a BMW i4 e40. Lease ends in a month and I’m only at 15k miles. First year of owner I was working remote but since the last two years I have to go 3-4 days to work.

Daily commute is 25 miles. Weekly estimated commute is ~100miles. Office commute is stop and go traffic for 30 mins, which is why I’ve been loving BMWs DAPP system. Also, leaning luxury sedans because I’m spoilt.

Residual of my i4 is $36.5k.

I test drove a bunch of cars over the last few weeks and have the following options listed below. Prices mentioned without taxes.

  1. My 2023 i4 with 15k miles for $36.5k. Current market value is probably low 30s. Fully loaded except HUD (weird spec).
  2. 2023 530e with 20k miles for $39k. Fully loaded again. Msrp 73k.
  3. 2023 540i with 25k miles for $44k. Well equipped. Msrp 71k. Missing M sport package, heated steering and shadowline.
  4. 2025 i5 with 9k miles for $52k. Well equipped. $72k msrp.

All four cars have DAPP.

I tested out Lexus IS350, Genesis G70, Model 3, Volvo s60, Golf and a few others but most of them felt a bit cramped or had some or the other issue that didn’t make me pull the trigger. I’m skinny but 6’2. I used to love my i4 but after getting in a 5 series I did feel it was really comfortable. I test drove the 340i as well but felt it was too harsh.

I do love driving and would love to have as much speed and power as I can, but with my office commute I’m realizing that 99 percent of my driving is in traffic and I should optimize for that.

I do have an EV charger at home, which is why I’m leaning towards electric and PHEV options.
