I've seen some recent posts about splitting embroidery thread into smaller sections, along with queries about broken bracelets and thicker threads.
Here is a real life demonstration of the results using 2/4/6/8/12 strands of DMC embroidery thread with 2 rounds of a standard chevron.
Pic. 2 shows the thickness of each example. I would highly recommend doubling your threads (12 strand) for anyone looking to make pet collars, belts, hat bands, etc. The heft of the created material is quite amazing, similar to a webbed belt.
I quite like the look of 4 strands myself vs. the standard 6 strands. One unexpected find is the 12 strands is...fun!! Quite enjoyable!! My next project I'm going to use 12 strands on something 24-26 strings.
