Former Metro Micro Operator (left before outsourcing in March 2025) – AMA

Hey everyone,

I used to work as a Metro Micro operator and left in December to go overseas, right before operations were outsourced to a third-party contractor in March 2025 (MTA still oversees it, but daily operations changed after I left).

I figured I’d do an AMA since a lot of people use the service or are curious about how it works behind the scenes.

Even though I left before the transition, I still have firsthand experience with how things were run internally and can give insight into what likely changed based on how the system operated before.

I can talk about:

  • What the job was really like day-to-day
  • Pay, hours, and working conditions
  • The dispatch system and routing
  • Passenger experiences (good, bad, and weird)
  • Common issues riders don’t realize
  • What outsourcing likely changed from an operator perspective

Ask me anything!
