New XC Coach

Yesterday, I made my decision final. I resigned from coaching football and will be taking over XC coaching duties for our high school.

I have been coaching football for a long while now (I think 13 years), pop warner and then high school. It is a blast and intense, but the drama got to me last year (player and parent). It certainly was not fun. My youngest will be a junior and I spoke to him about it. His only thing was "you will still come to my games correct?"

I got voluntold to coach track and field 3 years ago now. It has been great and I love it. We are a small school and I have one assistant coach who is very knowledgeable but older (76). My boys sprint and hurdle, so I have focused on that but learning all events. I recently finished USATF Level 1 coaching.

We have had a revolving coaching door at cross country, so I decided to make the switch. I have a bunch to learn, but looking forward to building a team and hoping adding some distance to my track team.

Axle seal leaking

My son's Toyota pickup solid axle is leaking. I have yet to be in a Toyota axle/birf. I assume there is a seal in there that needs replacement. Fairly easy process? What else should we do while there?

What is AT&T cell coverage in Skagway, AK? We do not plan on having nor do we want an internet package, but my middle son needs to register for his college classes while we will be in Skagway. We have AT&T as our cellular provider, do they have coverage Skagway?

Important question, what is the ice cream, milk shake, and chocolate milk situation on Voyager of the Seas? We are cruising Alaska in mid-June with three athletic teenage/young adult boys who eat like crazy. These are important questions for them. I have heard there is no Jonny Rockets aboard Voyager.

We are trying to decide if we should get the boys drink packages. They generally don't drink sodas, coffee, energy drinks (all 3 are athletes). They will eat ice cream and drink chocolate milk all day long though and will devour milk shakes.

Is there ice cream, milk shakes and chocolate milk available? Do they come with drink packages?

My son/athlete is in 12th grade and having a great season. His 400m PR at the end of last outdoor season was 50.62. He ran a 50.40 PR in indoor in January. He has been running PRs every meet but was still searching for sub 50. He was coming out of the blocks at full go, once he felt he was about top speed he would float until through most of the curve and finish strong and fast.

Two meets ago, he decided to change up his strategy and ran the 1st 200m like he runs the 200m (22.4 pr) all out sprint. Then just trying to push the wall as far as he can and then hold on to the finish. He definitely slowed at the finish, but ran 49.21 and then 48.86 Friday! Great gains over two weeks (he also got his sub 11 100m,running a 10.96).

He now believes he can drop even more time if he just gets stronger and pushes the wall further towards the finish.

Obviously, this has worked for him. What strategy do you use to run the 400m? Any tips to go even faster?
