the "chemical free" foam trend is going to ruin my hands

Man I am so over dealing with this right now. Don't get me wrong, I hate the smell of fresh high-density poly foam off-gassing in my shop as much as anyone, but these clients asking for giant custom window bench cushions made entirely out of "natural materials" have no idea how much labor goes into it. building a massive seat out of loose ticking and batting without it turning into a lumpy potato is physically exhausting

I had a lady last week demand a 9-foot curved bay window seat with zero synthetics. I honestly didn't even want to take the job because hand-tufting that much raw material makes my fingers cramp just thinking about it. I ended up just having home of wool make the actual insert to her weird dimensions and I just sewed the velvet slipcover for it to save my sanity.

But seriously how are you guys pricing these all-natural jobs?? Because if I have to physically hand-stuff one more massive custom bench cushion im going to lose it tbh

anyone else tired of holding onto a flip that wont sell

bought a place last year thinking id flip it in 3 months. now its been almost a year and im still paying utilities on an empty house. market slowed down way more than i expected

the house is fine. new floors paint kitchen updated. but its just sitting there. had a few showings but no offers. dropped the price twice already

at this point im losing money every month just holding it. i dont even care about making a big profit anymore. just want to get out and move on to the next thing

im not really a flipper anyway this was my first try. thought it would be easy but its been a headache.

tried to finance a new ute through my bank and nearly got stitched up

run a small electrical business, just me and an apprentice. old HiLux was bleeding money in repairs so I pulled the trigger on a replacement.

went to my bank assuming a business vehicle loan would be simple. they kept pushing me toward a personal loan product, higher rate, and more importantly, it would've stuffed up how I claim depreciation and the GST on the purchase. when I pointed out the ute is 100% work use they basically said "yeah that's just what we offer".

ended up going through a broker after a plumber mate recommended it. got set up with a chattel mortgage instead correct structure for a business asset, better rate, and I could claim the GST upfront. whole thing was done in about a day.

honestly didn't know chattel mortgages were even a thing until someone pointed me in the right direction. banks aren't going to volunteer that information if their product works for them.

any other tradies been through something similar or know other gotchas to watch for when financing work vehicles?

which malcolm in the middle character would be the worst boss?

The more I rewatch the show, the more I realize almost every character would probably be a disaster in a workplace for completely different reasons. Reese would create chaos, Malcolm would overthink everything, Dewey would somehow manipulate everyone without trying, and Hal would probably get distracted every five minutes

At the same time, that’s also what makes the characters so entertaining. They all feel exaggerated but still weirdly realistic in certain situations, especially when it comes to stress and family dynamics

Which character do you think would be the absolute worst boss in real life? And which one do you think would surprisingly be the best to work with?

We recently started working with clients outside the US, and one thing I completely underestimated was how complicated legal translation can get. Contracts, NDAs, service agreements. You know… at first I assumed it was mostly about translating text accurately, but it turns out wording matters a lot more when legal meaning is involved. Especially when you aren’t a lawyer at all, and even reading it in your language can sound confusing.

We initially tried using a freelance translator we found through a marketplace because the pricing seemed reasonable. The translation looked fine in the beginning, but when one of our overseas clients reviewed the agreement with their lawyer, they pointed out several phrases that were technically correct but let’s say, legally ambiguous in their country

That made me realize legal translation is very different from marketing or website content. Small wording differences can completely change interpretation, especially across jurisdictions.

Now I’m looking into agencies instead of individual freelancers because I’d rather have a process with review and specialization. I’ve been considering Ad Verbum since they seem to work with business and legal translations specifically, but I’m still comparing options.

Curious how others handle this, do you rely on agencies, legal translators, or local lawyers to review everything before sending documents internationally?

My brother’s in Year 13 and honestly, the pressure on him right now is unreal. He’s always been the laid-back one in our family, but this year it’s like the weight of the world’s landed on his shoulders. He’s up till 1am most nights, textbooks everywhere, and I caught him staring at his notes last week looking properly lost.

I’d love to help him but, truthfully, I barely remember my own A-Levels (pretty sure I blocked them out on purpose).

He’s not the type to ask for help either, which makes it worse.

I’m tempted to book him a few proper revision sessions as a bit of a lifeline before exams. Had a scroll through Tutorextra – looks decent, but there’s so many tutors it’s a bit of a minefield. Has anyone actually used it for A-Levels? Is it worth getting someone in at this stage, or is it just better to let him slog through YouTube like everyone else?

If anyone’s got recommendations for tutors who actually know their stuff. Thanks
