Is it dementia?

I’m reposting this from another sub, does this read as dementia? We’re having a horrible time navigating the medical system in part because my mom made and canceled so many medical appointments, often at the last second. Repost starts below:

My mom is 97. She’s in a very expensive assisted living facility now was at home until recently. Nearly every day I get a voicemail saying ‘come now, I’m dying, please. I’m sorry’.

Often this in all caps or filled with typos. It’s the same nearly every day. When she was home she’d call 911 and wind up in the ER and have long nights there with the addicts and stuff. Sometimes she’d call neighbors who’d be freaked out.

The has these shaking seizures and has bruises from hitting things. Doctors say it’s just anxiety. She has better bloodwork than anyone. She could live for years like this.

She’s kinda being kicked out of assisted living now and none of us know what to do. Nobody wants a nursing home. Memory care is hundreds of thousands a year but we’ll do it if need be I guess. Her quality of life is an endless torment. I’ve become somewhat callous to it out of necessity.

Nobody tells you about this. I don’t have a script for it. It’s wild.

Late onset epilepsy?

My mom is 97. Starting just under a year ago she started having shaking fits, mild at first but severe now. She now shakes a lot and can’t walk, strikes things and gets bruises.

She’s often profoundly confused and scared around these events. Often doesn’t remember the individually or that she has them at all.

Does this read as epilepsy?

One step closer to the passive solar dream.

A few years ago we took down a derelict warehouse and cleaned up the site from contamination. We're in the design phase for the new house now. It's a passive solar design with a slab heated by rooftop solar hot water. The basement portion will also have a skylight (part of it sticks out beyond the house). We will also have a masonry heater. It's a kind of massive stove that stores the heat from hot efficient fires and releases it slowly throughout the day or night. It will literally weigh tons. There a carport (really a patio cover but we can park there) that should generate enough power for back up heat, cooling, and any appliances.

We're dedicating quite a lot of the site to a boccie court but it also functions as a dry well to prevent flooding in the area to reduce storm water runoff. The site abuts a town park so we don't really need lawn. The rest is going to be paths and wildflowers.

We already have site plan approval and have moved through the initial design phase into construction drawings.

I'll be 60 years old in December. I am watching my mom now at 97 wind down and die as my dad did 11 years ago. So, I am aware of my mortality. I was thinking that this house is for us for a little while but mostly it's a thing that will be left behind for others.

I know that we have a lot. I know that things are pretty bad. Hopefully this project going ahead feels hopeful to people.

I may have posted this here before but these things can take years and have starts and stops. This time we're almost there.I had a long grueling morning on the phone with planning and the builder. It's almost there.

This one has a triangle on top! It's a Flieger! Military branding is bonkers.

If you put a triangle on top of a watch near the 12 suddenly it's a pilots watch and, in some cases, a fliger. I guess this is supposed to be reminiscent of the watches worn by the Luftwaffe as they bombed Poland and England. Super nice! Great! Add a triangle and suddenly you're prt of the blitzkrieg.

If you reverse the numbers on a dive watch suddenly it's 'heritage' is part of the French Navy underwater assassination team or whatever. Yes, French elite forces scuba navigation. Was there ever a more bizarre combination of words? Yes, I identify with the frogman murder crew.

The Seiko Capt Willard got it's name because it's the watch worn by Charlie Sheen. My friends Rob Pete and I used to get stoned in High School and pop in a VHS of Apocalypses Now. So, I have seen it like 38 times and I was an English Lit major and read Heart of Darkness. This is the story of a man's complicity with and descent into madness. Sure, there's a lot of 70s cool in that movie but that movies is also like 50 years old. It's not the movie people think it is. When Duval says "I love the smell of Napalm" he's talking about killing people so his guys can surf. Killing them by burning their skin off.

Britt Peirce says the Murph is the only watch you need and she's wanted to "get hands on one now for a while". That's a sad state of affairs. Another movie prop Hamilton says "When director Christopher Nolan needed a watch that could carry the weight of a story about time, love, and sacrifice, he turned to Hamilton." Dude, its a movie prop. The actors "carried the weight". I saw Interstellar but I don't really remember it. I am not sure if it's militant in nature or not but Hamilton is heavily military branded and Murph is also the name of a Navy Seal workout so I am just going to say military.

Don't get me started on James Bond, I read every novel by Flemming and have a lot to say about it, and the movies, about how they reflect race, gender, class, and the 'other'.

I don't really know why you'd want a watch with some vague military connection, however tenuous, but hey, you do you. If you want to mild cosplay German bomber pilots, assassination frogmen, or an alcoholic killer who become complicit in the hypocrisy that is civilization and savagery that cool? There is so much about watches that's cringe, stupid, boring, or dumb but this has to top the chart for me.

Within three miles of where I live not one, but two golf courses are being turned back to wild places. I mixed the two up in my other post. Bought last year the course is being rewilded and the golf club building is now HQ to a local land trust organization.

There’s literally too many failed courses being rewilded for me to keep them straight around here.

We have an 07 pilot without the tow package. I want to bring back about 3000lbs of cherry flooring. This would be about 50 miles over flat interstate point to point tow. We have a hitch we use for bicycles but I haven't towed anything like this. Is it acceptable? Once were up to speed it's just flat out. Nothing. Barely any steering.

A local golf course got sold to a land trust here and is being turned back into meadow and forest. Beaver Brook Golf Course will again have beavers and probably moose.

Well, I was excited to try this out My Whisper 4WD mower but I clipped a slightly buried tree stump and it really blew up the mower in a big way. It bent the blade, destroyed the blade mount system and snapped loose the plastic battery holder so now it wobbles. It was great before that. No help from the store. Managed to cobble it togehter to finish the lawn but cut my finger straightening the blade.

Good news is the parts to fix it are like $60.

My old junky no name battery mower I got for $75 from the utilities were less deluxe but it did the job and was more tolerant of errors.

It seems I really like less serious ‘skin diver’ models. I now own this and an Omega 166.062 Big Crown.

Anyhow, I like how happy this mini diver is. I like that it doesn’t have a screw down crown but I mostly like the orange bezel, fun indices, and the modest and wearable 38mm size.

I’m not sure of the exact model of this Elgin, it used an AS 1902 movement. Either the bezel or the watch itself, is nicknamed ‘Pumpkin’. If anyone knows the model LMK.

If you see a swarm of bees please notify me. It's unlikely they'd survive in the wild. I am a 20 year beekeeper and can take them and make sure they'e safe and dot damage anyone's property.

We saw the Sondheim musical last night, which ran 3 hours, and had an orchestra in the pit. I’ve never seen the pit open before.

At first u thought the singing was lip synched because the voices were so great. The musical itself was mind boggling genius.

I am absolutely at a loss for how it could have been better. Smith theater is so often great but this was special. Probably sold out but get wait listed if you can.
