What about a Porchfest?

What about a Porchfest?

We have a Back Porch Fest. But what about a Porchfest? Have you ever been to one? What did you think of it? Here at home we’re familiar with the one held in Somerville. The one there is incredible. Around 40 cities and towns in Mass hold their own. I think it’d be hugely popular in Northampton.

Can anyone help me out tomorrow at around noon?

I'm having surgery tomorrow at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and need to be escorted out by someone who's not a rideshare (Uber), but none of my friends can drive me, and my family lives far away.

I don't need to be driven more than a mile, and I'll make sure to pay you for your effort :)

Pet raccoon?

This is so random but I've always wanted to meet a raccoon that's adjusted to humans. If you've got a pet raccoon and want to make a new friend, lmk.

Coolidge Bridge Maniac

I would love to know who it was who did a U-turn on the bridge, driving over the cement median on the Northampton side, rather than just going around the circle, and heading back toward Hadley. Truly a maniacal move.

best hiking trails accessible by pvta?

hello!! i am a smith college student who loves hiking. i've walked the mill river trail and the northampton rail trail, but i'm itching for more elevation, mountains, and views. however, it seems the bus routes are a bit tricky in trying to reach outdoor recreation.

does anybody have any great beginner-moderate trails that are relatively accessible by bus?

When are these windows on the defunct Pearl Street Nightclub going to fall on an unsuspecting pedestrian, and will the owner, Eric Suher, be held responsible when it happens?

Best place to find prospective renters/share rental listing for the area

Hey y'all, my partner and I live in a rental unit in Hadley and we're planning on moving from our upstairs unit to our downstairs unit in late May/Early June. The current tenants in our downstairs unit are breaking their lease and will be rent responsible until we find someone to take over our unit so we can transfer our lease downstairs and take over their unit. I've posted in all the various Facebook groups I could find and haven't had any luck yet. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to post the listing/find prospective renters in need of a rental? Thanks in advance!

Probably not relevant here but this was too funny not to share

Okay this is kinda random and off topic, but my roommates and I were bored one night and decided to try one of those soulmate sketch things together just for fun that I keep seeing everyone talk about. We used the website, drawndestiny.com, and all ordered ours at the same time so we could compare.

The results were... mixed 💀

Roommate #1 opens hers and immediately goes “uhhh why does this look like my boyfriend?” Not identical, but close enough that it made us all uncomfortable for a second. Idk why she was mad about it, you'd think she'd be happy it looked like her bf.

Then I opened mine and mine looked a lot like someone I’d just matched with on Tinder a few days earlier. Again, not exact, but similar enough that I had to zoom in and side eye my phone. So I was like, "Well, let me actually reply to his message now lol".

Roommate #2? Completely different experience. Hers looked nothing like anyone she knows… except after staring at it for a minute she goes, “wait... why does this look like that guy I went on the worst date of my life with?” So now we’re joking that maybe that was actually her soulmate and she fumbled it 😭

Was it silly? Yes. Did it lead to way too much over-analyzing and laughing? Also yes.

Curious if anyone else has tried these and compared with friends. Did yours end up weirdly accurate or completely off?

What was Quaverly talking about?

At School committee last week, Quaverly stood up to incoherently lambast the committee as "bigots" (why? no clue), but then concluded with this: "We don't really have a lot of Trump voters, do we? In fact, most of our conservatives stopped voting after Vietnam and have not been engaging. So, who are the bad guys? If the conservatives have rejected Trump and rejected the Democrats, it's the liberals. … And if you think the fight is over, let me tell you, we've moved on to phase two, which is getting all those conservatives who haven't voted since the Vietnam War reactivated. Because now that the left is activated about schools and the conservatives are activated about Picture Main Street, we just added 30 30% of our city's population to the fight. Times are changing. We're giving the community back to the village."
Who does she think is currently running the city -- non-community members? Does she think conservatives/Trumpers will support a huge school budget hike? Is she calling herself a conservative? (she says conservatives are the ones opposed to PMS, and she is opposed, so...?)
I'm just waiting for the "Q as Jesus" meme next

L3harris

Hi, everyone. I have been applying to L3Harris for about a year now. More specifically their test technician roles because it is the position that is closest to what I did in the Marine Corps. I am a little overqualified as well. They are asking for 2 years of experience and I have 3. I have experience in avionics, which consists of repairing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and installing electronic equipment for aircraft. I know how to follow procedures, and read blueprints. Some of the key skills I have include Microwave/RF, AC/DC circuitry, Digital/Analog circuitry, temperature, vibration, flow, and torque. I have not done work like this since 2019, but if allowed to get back into the trade I am certain I would pick things up pretty quickly.

I am not sure why it keeps telling me I’m not being considered for the position. I have the keywords for the ATS and I even had ChatGPT tailor my resume to the exact way that it said how L3harris recruiters would look at it, the last time I applied. I even was able to stop by last week and dropped off a paper copy of my resume and it still says I'm not considered for the position. Some help from someone in the community who works there would be helpful.

what happened to the pizza place coming to thornes?

Was it Tellus that was going to open a pizza specific place in Thornes basement? I was really looking forward to it, but noticed yesterday it seems like the space is empty again. such a bummer, wondering if anyone knows what happened.

Hampshire now the ghost in the Scooby Doo metaphor

R.I.P. Hampshire College. A huge loss.

The Five College Area is now four.

Remember that old Scooby Doo metaphor (Fred = Amherst; Daphne = Mt. Holyoke; Velma = Smith; Scooby = UMass; Shaggy = Hampshire)? What is Hampshire now, one of the ghosts?

But in all seriousness, this is really sad. I didn’t go to Hampshire, but even for non-students/employees it was such important part of the Pioneer Valley, from Hampshire Halloween to the Yiddish Book Center.

Hampshire College is closing—what should happen to the campus?

I’ve been talking to students across the Five Colleges, and one thing keeps coming up: a lot of people want to stay in the Pioneer Valley, but can’t find a path to do it.

Housing is limited, and opportunities to build something after graduation are even more limited.

Curious what people think about the idea of turning the Hampshire campus into a live-work innovation hub—something that helps students and recent grads stay, build, and grow ideas here instead of leaving for Boston or NYC.

I wrote more about it here if anyone’s interested:
