Rutherford: "Some people think Quinn left here because the team wasn't any good. He was leaving anyways, ok? And, the best example I can give you is Matthew Tkachuk. He was in Calgary, they had a good team, he wanted to go back to the US, and he went."

[LeBrun] The first-ever NHL playoff cap goes into effect now this post-season. But as Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly explained last month at the GM meetings, and confirmed again today, none of the 16 playoff teams actually have any game day lineup decisions which would put them over the cap anyway.

- He’s very excited to play at the World Championship. It’s his first time at the tournament. Barkov is a huge addition for Finland.
- On his season: “Obviously tough. It’s not what you expect coming into the season. Obviously pretty hard time not playing. Yeah, disappointing, but just trying to have a good summer, good, Worlds, come back next for next season.”
- On handling being a healthy scratch: “It’s tough, but just try to have a positive mindset. You know, it’s all about the everyday work. You know, come to the rink smiling, try to have some fun, stay positive, you know, be ready whenever your name is called.”
- On trying to get a bigger role next season: “Just have to come in and have a good training camp, you know, try to make a good impression, you know. That’s all I can do.”
Gavrikov
- They got a different result than they expected. They’re resetting for next season and get back to their goal which is playing in the playoffs for the Stanley Cup.
- They can use this year as motivation.
- “For now we have to reset, obviously, but I think every single day you come into the rink and you have think about compete as hard as you can and again try to win every single game, so that’s how we can get success.
- “It was nice. Scored a few more goals than usual…playing with Foxy helped me a bit, too. So, he’s a great defensive player and obviously offensively, he’s bringing a lot for the team.”
- On if there’s things they can build on: “We got a group of young guys right now. They step in, and I think they play good…They tried as hard as they could, and they brought a lot for us.”
- He’s unsure of what exactly he’s doing this summer. He’s going to be in Russia “for a while.”
Borgen
- “Our goal is always to play in the playoffs, but, yeah, I mean we knew this was coming for a bit. So, yeah, never fun to end at this time of year.”
- “Thought we had a strong team, just didn’t end up working out too well during the year and I thought there was positive signs towards the end of the year, and hopefully we can bring that back.”
- “I thought we played well at the start. We just weren’t really scoring goals. But, same thing for injuries. Every team has them. It’s an excuse. They were some of our best players. It’s unfortunate, but it happens.”
- On his game: “Ups and downs. It’s hockey, a lot of the games during the year that sometimes I played good, sometimes not so good.”
Lafrenière
“We all know the season was disappointing for all of us.”
- He was better in the second half of the season. He can work hard over the summer and try to have a more consistent season.
- “I feel just my confidence that last 30, 40 games. Just liked the way I played. You know, just making plays and trusting yourself. I feel that’s a big part of playing good, if you play with confidence. So, I feel that was the biggest difference.”
- “You look at goals around the league, they’re scored around the net. So, you have to get there, and that’s part of my game. I can still improve and, you know, I’ll work on that, and, you know, hopefully come back and be even better.
- “You trade some guys and other people have to step up, you know, that’s how it is. ANd, I feel like I can take a step and even I think, like I said, I like my second half, but I can be even better. So, you know, that’s kind of my mindset for next year.”
- He needs to build more consistency. That is the one element of his game he wants to improve.
- “As a player, you always want the most ice time you can get, and, you know, being on the power play with these guys, it was good.”
- “I think we have a really good mix. The young guys came in and did a really good job. They were unbelievable for us. So, hopefully we can bring that back next year and have a better year and make the playoffs.
- He’s interested in playing for Canada at Worlds, but has not had any conversations about it.
- Gabe “is a great player. I mean, just how smart he is. You know, for a young guy like that, just to play with his confidence, too. He’s making plays everywhere. That’s really impressive. And, I feel like he’s just going to get better. And, it’s really big for us because I think he can be a great player for years. It was really was really fun to play with him.”

- “It’s not what we expected obviously. I think coming into the year we thought we were going to be a team that could contend, and obviously that’s not what happened. I think it’s hard to assess the year from a hockey standpoint for our team. I think that there was a lot of really key injuries that made it difficult to really see what we were as a whole.”
- On his early injury: “It was crazy. So I had like a viral bacteria get into my lung and wasn’t sure what it was. This happened I think before the first game of the year. I thought I was just having back spasms and then I played the first game, got a little bit worse, played in Buffalo, think I got cross checked right in that area and whatever, like, fluid was in there, it was, it’s like bubbles, and I guess the bubbles burst and it spread. I had a lot of fluid around my lung, so I had to have surgery to get the fluid removed and chest tubes and whatever. So I was in the hospital for like a week, but just very weird, wasn’t like an injury I don’t think. LIke no one really knows how it came about. It was very scary. I thought I was dying.”
- He felt back to normal pretty quickly. “It was just a lung capacity thing, like once I was back on the ice and I skated a couple of times, and it was just getting my stamina back.”
- “Once the trade deadline was over, it was just nice to have all the stuff kind be like: alright, it’s done for now. I can just play hockey and family can kind of relax obviously benign here till the end of the year now. If something does happen this summer, it’s at least, like we have time to figure some stuff out, but I think it was more just seeing what we had here as a team after the deadline and going into the summer, going into next year, trying to get the young guys acclimated. “
- He doesn’t know what’s going to happen during the offseason. He has talked to Drury. Drury will be in contact if “something is going on.”
