Ford rebuilt my 2021 Expedition transmission 4x and still won’t replace it — advice?
Looking for others’ experiences/advice here because I’m honestly at my wit’s end with our Expedition.
We have a 2021 Expedition XLT that we purchased in April 2023 with 42k miles on it. Going into it, we knew these vehicles had some known transmission issues, so we specifically purchased an extended warranty expecting that if/when something happened, Ford would handle it appropriately.
Fast forward to December 2025 — we brought it in for a transmission issue fully expecting Ford to replace the transmission and move on. Instead, we’ve now had the vehicle back in the shop THREE times, the transmission has been rebuilt FOUR separate times, and Ford still refuses to authorize a new crated transmission.
At this point, I’ve completely lost confidence in the repair process. We’re beyond frustrated that they continue attempting rebuild after rebuild instead of replacing the unit entirely.
Has anyone successfully gotten Ford to approve a full transmission replacement instead of repeated rebuilds? If so:
• Who did you escalate through?
• Did you involve Ford corporate?
• Lemon law attorney?
• BBB Auto Line?
• Anything specific you said or documented that finally pushed it through?
Would really appreciate hearing others’ experiences or any advice on next steps because this has become exhausting.
