Griffon's High Drop! Attack

The attack is described as:

High Drop! The griffon grabs a player character in its claws and takes to the sky. Unless the victim dodges the attack, the griffon grabs them and flies 2D6+6 meters into the air. On its next turn the griffon drops the victim (instead of making a new monster attack), who takes damage from the fall.

Can a PC attack the Griffon before being dropped if his/her turn comes up before the Griffon's next turn?

I ask cause per the description it looks like this is a two-step attack and the attack is not complete until that Griffon's next turn so not sure how to rule this. There is also no mention on how the victim is grabbed (free hands?) or if a grapple can be broken like in the grapple rules.

Monsters attacking PC mounts

Has anyone ever ran an encounter where a monster or enemy has targeted PC group's mount or donkey? I was checking out Griffons and they are described as having interests in mounts, or separating PCs from them.

My PCs currently have a donkey, the donkey has stats that include a kicking attack. Would the donkey be able to defend itself in this way, if attacked?

Rolling a Dragon on an EVADE roll to Dodge

Is there an official ruling or popular suggestion for rolling a Dragon to Dodge? The Core rules mention, when rolling a Dragon on a Parry you can counter attack and was wondering if you can gain a bonus like that when dodging.

Also, if a character hits with a dragon (Critical Hit), does that mean you can only dodge it by rolling a dragon, the way you do with parrying a critical hit? The book doesn't mention this but wondering if t was omitted.

During our last session the PCs were investigating a room, when suddenly they heard footsteps approaching the scene and decided to hide under furniture and behind boxes in the room. I had them roll SNEAKING. Two of them succeeded and two did not. I ruled that the ones that did not disturbed their hiding place to the point that the cultists that arrived at the scene would be able to detect people were in the room and asked them to come out.

All the PCs came out and revealed themselves except for one (who was successful in her SNEAKING roll to hide). Initiative is about to be called and my question is, what benefit does the hidden PC get? Per RAW the Sneak Attack rules are:

Sneak Attack:

When you sneak up on someone undetected and perform an attack, it is called a sneak attack. First you make a SNEAKING roll. Moving close enough to attack in melee combat (within 2 meters) gives you a bane. If you fail, the enemy notices you – draw initiative.

  • So if the PC decided to move closer and perform a melee attack, she would have to make another SNEAKING roll?

If you succeed your attack counts as surprising, which means that you can choose any initiative card you want.

  • In what circumstance would a hidden character choose any other initiative other than number one?

You also get a boon on the attack, and the target can neither dodge nor parry.

  • Can the target of an attack use the HA Weasel to defend against a sneak attack (it's technically not a parry or dodge)?

If someone throws a torch in a flammable room full of people, how does it work mechanically? I understand that torches do D8 Fire damage but does this change as it spreads or is it just D8 area effect?

A PC with a high Bartering skill will almost never pay full price for anything. Should Bartering be done as an Opposed check, if so what skill opposes Bartering?

What skill should be used for Intimidation? Is this opposed?

When should Sneaking be opposed by Awareness?

I am currently running "Secret of the Dragon Emperor" and my players have only finished the Oracle Cave. I awarded them with a Heroic Ability afterwards. I was originally thinking of giving them a HA for every adventure site they successfully pass, but now i'm concerned if that will make the end of the campaign less challenging for them. I'm also not sure how long or short the campaign will be for my group.

Any suggestions on how often I should be awarding Heroic Abilities? Should this only be awarded after obtaining a Statuette piece (which in that case they would only be awarded a total of 3 more)?

I'm hoping for some suggestions on how to plan my next session.....last session my group of 4 PCs encountered Quasimund and his scum (per the listed Random Event). They killed all the scum and captured Quasi for questioning with the help of Alfilia Shadowleaf. After some intimidation tactics, Quasi just let out that Outskirt is overrun by cultists led by Leanara, but in my game he doesn't know that Leanara and Annabella are one and the same (she wouldn't entrust a drunkard with that info).

My idea for the next session is to have Hardy approach the PCs, upset that they decided to take the law into their own hands by not only murdering people in the town, but also kidnapping and interrogating someone without Hardy being made aware (prompting him to take Quasi into his custody). Meanwhile, Leanara and some cultists plot and lure a Troll attack in Outskirt (another random event in the book) as a distraction to free Quasi while the PCs are fighting off the troll.

My Questions:

  • Should Quasi be important enough for the cultists to stage a breakout?
  • Should Hardy have found out about the player's actions by Annabella (or maybe one of his security guards who is covertly a cultist)?
  • My players are suspecting Annabella as being Leanara, and I want them to figure it out in the best possible and dramatic way, any suggestions on how to go about doing this within the scenario I presented above?
