[The Boys] Anyone else miss the old Homelander with everything new going on?
So I've been thinking about this for a little bit now with how season 5 is being received not so well, and this isn't meant to be hate post, we already have enough of those, just a discussion. Antony Starr is an amazing actor I really feel like he is for the most part carrying this season, but does anyone else feel like his character has been belittled, or made too cartoonish? I get everyone goes through character development and this has always been brewing inside of him, the "I am Vought!" and his constant need for approval that was basically wiped away mid season 4, but does anyone else just miss the interesting and intelligent side of him with depth, charisma, and a fear factor in earlier seasons? He now feels like a psychopathic, cartoonish, and maniacal villain that just parodies current pollical figures inside of superhero tropes. I definitely for the most part feel like he has lost the scariness and intimidation to him, in season 1, it was scary, and he felt like a real threat. Now the show treats him as a pathetic joke who has to claim he's a god and kill the president to gain any "respect" whatsoever. Anyone have the same or similar thoughts? Or am I in the wrong here?
