Out of idle curiosity and zero expectations I emailed customer service to complain about the new points reward system. For all you fans of corporate PR slop, here is their reply:
"We’re sorry you feel a little disappointed about saying goodbye to Coupon Plus. While we appreciate you enjoyed the previous system, we are incredibly excited about the new possibilities Lidl Plus Points brings, and we want to assure you that this change is all about giving you more control and fantastic new benefits!
Lidl Plus Points is packed with potential and offers improvements we couldn't provide before, ensuring you get the most out of every shop:
You're in Control: You now have the power to choose exactly which products you want a coupon for, ensuring your points work best for you and your family.
Longer to Save Up: We've made it easier to reach bigger rewards! Your points are now valid for a whole two years (24 months) from the date you collect them, giving you loads of time to build up that balance.
More Time to Use Your Rewards: Coupon validity has been extended to 30 days, so you have plenty of time to grab your favourite products and ensure you never miss out on a saving.
Rewards: You’ll continue to receive personalised coupons each week meaning you can save more on the products you love!
Exciting Ways to Earn Extra: Keep an eye out for our special Extra Points campaigns in the app! You can earn more than the standard 1 point per £1 spent just by purchasing your everyday essentials.
We genuinely hope you'll love the expanded potential and flexibility that Lidl Plus Points brings and that you continue to be a valued member of our Lidl family!"
I personally will still shop there but with 3 kids the 10% voucher was a real help to shop strategically, now I would imagine instead of shopping there once a week it will be more like once a month because it's just easier for me to get Tesco deliveries.
If only you would fly Business Class, maybe you too could come up with the next [checks notes] "multi-dimensional journey model"
