Modifying a 10ER for space?

Hi, I'm looking at a used 10ER, hopefully finalizing a deal in the next 48hrs. At the moment there is limited space in the garage AND for the near future I'll only be doing very short projects (think bowls) and likely only using it as a lathe.

Would it be reasonably straightforward and safe to replace the large horizontal poles with shorter ones to make it a short lathe? I'd keep the old ones to revert it when I move to a bigger place, of course. I assume my plan is do-able, after watching tear-down and assembly videos of MarkV's but thought I should ask to be sure. Thanks!

I just stumbled over a YouTube video of a person cutting a circle with a miter saw and jig of sorts. I'd seen it done on bandsaws and circular table saws but not this. I assumed if I searched YouTube I would either see plenty of other people doing it or a handful of videos warning that it is unsafe. But I found neither. And trying with the Reddit search bar just gets irrelevant things (ie miter saw vs circular saw questions).

So, it should be right here and if the timestamp-start doesn't work, the bit starts at 21:00. Is this stupidly unsafe, or just risky enough that it should be the last choice between a table, band, or miter saw.
