Tips on fiesty gecko
I've had Gordy for almost a year, he's currently almost 3 years old (got him as an adult). Gordy doesn't like being handled, and we respect this. We've tried choice based handling and he doesn't seem interested, just scared so we leave it at he's cute and I want to give him a happy life. This week his favorite hide (coconut shell) fell a few inches and ended up right in front of the door. I opened it to move it back and he literally jumped at me and tried to bolt. I did catch him, and tried again later in the day when he was up at the upper back corner but he did it again. I gave up for the day, made sure he was misted and had had fresh food the day before so I let it go for fear of hurting him or scaring him. Somehow he still has his tail through all this.
I woke up this morning and he's back in the coconut right in front of the door. I need to fix it and fake care of him tonight. I have cats in the house who are not allowed in the room with Gordy, and if he gets loose they 100% will play nasty with him. I also don't really have anyone who can help do what I need to do if I do try to hold him. I am trying to get past the fear of hurting him, I know they're hardy but he's so small.
Any recommendations? Techniques that helped you?
