Eugene Regional Preview

The Eugene Regional!!

Biggest Storyline is how good the Mississippi State Arms, vs the Ducks Offense.

Oregon and Idaho State faced off, and Oregon won 4-3 in 8 innings. Kasey Aginaga, got the start for ISU and threw great. Kira Day had a huge day, than Lyndsey Grien shut out Oregon in relief and Elon Butler walked it off against Marley Golsukin.

Weather looks great, its kind of chilly. But no rain in sight!

Oregon - The Ducks are led by transfers Elon Butler(.413/18/58) and Amari Harper(.404/15/49). Harper has turned it on later in the season, and is one of the hottest players in the country. Stefini Ma’ake(.359/10/47) and Emma Cox(.336/11/54) both have been having breakout seasons this year. Kaylynn Jones(.346/5/29) has been a great lead off batter.

Pitching - Lyndsey Grien(23-6/2.73/195) has been the ace of this squad. The former Big 10 Pitcher of the Year has one of the best riseballs in the tourney, and she has a very nice changeup to go with it. Elise Sokolsky(8-3/4.04/65) is returning from injury and has lots of potential to be good this tournament. Her best performance of the season was against UCLA.

Best Win - UCLA. Worst Loss - Auburn

The Idaho State Bengals can score. Led by Sydney Groves(.348/19/61) and Kira Day(.343/13/38). Former Big West Player of the Year Ava Brown(.329/15/53) and Alyssa Yee(.376/5/32) add more power in this lineup, while Camryn McDonald(.435/5/22) and Jaden Moore(.402/5/24) is able to get on base a lot. Jenna Kearns(.342/5/32) is another batter that gives this offense lots of depth.

Marley Goluskin(12-4/2.54/81) is the two time Big West Player of the Year, and Kasey Aginaga(16-4/3.44/81) is the other arm in this two person rotation. When they faced Oregon in February, they only gave up 4 runs.

Best Win - Oregon State, Worst Loss - Utah Valley

Mississippi State - Kiarra Sells(.352/14/30) and Nadia Barbary(.331/12/37) lead the offense. These are the two, that will need to get it going, or the offense just won’t work this weekend. Xaine Romero(.216/5/16) and Taylor Troutman(.253/4/14) were some of the better bats in conference play. Troutman hit the walkoff against Erin Nuwer to give Tennessee their first lost.

The pitching is where this team shines, Peja Goold(15-10/2.12/169) is the ace of this squad. She throws more side to side and only peaks at around 60mph. Alyssa Faircloth(15-10/2.51/235) is the other great pitcher on staff. She has one of the best riseball’s and is one of the best strikeout pitchers in all of softball. I believe that Goold is better, but both of them have been outstanding.
Best win - Tennessee, Worst Loss - Ole Miss

St. Mary’s - The Gael’s are back in the tourney, with is what I think their best team in recent years. Hannah Ferguson(.422/3/28) and Sam Buckley(.352/11/33) are a very good and fun combo at the top of the lineup. Braxton Brown(.347/9/54) is their main RBI threat. And Alex Cutonilli(.323/6/41) gets to back her up in the lineup. When they swept Washington this season, all of the big 4 had a huge day. So for them to win, these are the 4 that need to show up.

Pitching wise - WCC Pitcher of the year Odhi Vasquez(19-4/2.36/141) is the ace. She’s been having the best season of her career. Madeline Haun(9-3/4.26/57) is the second best pitcher on the staff. Vasquez threw a really good game against Washington and Stanford.

Best win - Washington, Worst Loss - Seattle

My Take - I personally think Mississippi State gets it done, I think these are 4 decent teams, Oregon and Mississippi State win both game 1s, and St. Mary’s and Oregon have a really close game in game 5 Saturday Night. And Oregon and Mississippi State split Sunday games. And Mississippi State wins the regional.

My top 10

  1. Peja Goold
  2. Elon Butler
  3. Alyssa Faircloth
  4. Amari Harper
  5. Lyndsey Grien
  6. Sydney Groves
  7. Odhi Vasquez
  8. Emma Cox
  9. Stefini Ma’ake
  10.  Ava Brown

Austin Regional Preview

The Austin Regional

I personally believe that this is the easiest Regional. There’s not many storylines except that there are two Glen Moore’ coaching. Texas beat Baylor twice, both in 5 innings.  Baylor could not hit Kavan, and Texas was able to hit Creager and Tanner very well.

The Weather looks great, might rain a little Sunday afternoon

Texas - The Longhorns are led by SEC player of the Year Katie Stewart(.434/25/63). She has been absolutely unreal this season. Kayden Henry(.404/6/41) and Leighann Goode(.382/11/37) have been having the best seasons of their careers. Hannah Wells(.294/13/37) has had a great freshman season. Viviana Martinez(.380/3/38) is back from injury and is playing lights out. Reese Atwood(.351/16/55) is having a down year, but is still Reese Atwood.

Teagan Kavan(22-4/2.65/207) has been the ace, she throws a riseball and a really nice curve and screwball. Citlaly Gutierrez(8-3/2.11/38) has been a good 2nd option but not used as much as I expected her to be used, she’s more of a drop ball specialist.

Best Win - Alabama, Worst Loss -  Oklahoma State

Wagner  - They are led by Sydnie Trujillo(.400/3/41) she is their main bat, and the one who will have to do most of the damage. Alanya Giampolo(.313/0/16) and Payton Janicki(.312/1/27) are the other girls who are going to need to show up.

Samantha Lotus(10-11/3.18/81) and Karson Zavala(11-7/3.37/118) are the two main pitchers for this squad. Zavala is the better one.

Best win - LIU, Worst Loss - Mercy Hurst

Baylor  - Amber Toven(.351/5/47) has been having her best season in her last year. Brooklyn Carter(.323/1/13) is one of the fastest players in the country, with game changing speed. Kaygen Marshall(.244/10/25) is the other big bat in this lineup. The Baylor lineup is not very great at all tbh. Brooklyn Carter does have a home run off Nijaree Canady.

Cambree Creager(9-10/4.14/63) has been the ace, she has a great rise ball and is someone who can throw a bunch of innings. Peyton Tanner(9-10/4.33/88) is the other option, More of a drop ball pitcher. Both of these girls need to throw very very well this weekend.  Creager pitched very well vs Texas State.

Best Win - Texas Tech, Worst Loss - UT Arlington.

Wisconsin - The Badgers are led by Hilary Blomberg(.361/15/50) and Jaclyn Showalter(.301/13/31). Kendra Lewis(.338/6/34) had an underwhelming season, but is still a very underrated player. Emily Bojan(.357/7/28) is also a very underrated player for this squad.  The  offense hit Lydnsey Grein very well last weekend.

Pitching wise - It is all Shelby Jacobson(14-9/4.32/108) and Berritt Herr(11-6/5.15/66). He Badgers staff is not very deep nor talented. Jacobson will need to be all on it this weekend.

Best Win - Oregon. Worst Lost - St. Thomas

My Take - Texas will get through this region pretty easily honestly. None of this are going to be able to hit Kavan and company enough for them to have a chance. I expect the Horns to look very dominant. I also expect Wisconsin and Baylor to split their games against each other.

Top 10 Players

  1. Katie Stewart
  2. Teagan Kavan
  3. Kayden Henry
  4. Reese Atwood
  5. Hannah Wells
  6. Leigh Anne Goode
  7. Hilary Blomberg
  8. Amber Tovan
  9. Viviana Martinez
  10. Kendra Lewis

Norman Regional Preview

The Norman Regional!

The biggest storyline is to see how OU’s pitching does against Michigan and Kansas who both have pretty good offenses. And Oklahoma vs Kansas is always a little rivalry.

The weather looks great, will rain later Sunday Night
Oklahoma - The best offense in the country belongs to the Sooners. It starts at the top with Kai Minor(.446/9/41) and Ella Parker(..416/21/61). One of the best combos in the country. Kendall Wells(.360/36/79) and Gabbie Garcia(.393/22/68) are both All-Americans. Abby Dayton(.398/8/42) and Isabella Emerling(.395/18/54) are both having the best seasons of their careers. Aliana Agbayani(.376/6/30) has also been outstanding. Kasadi Pickering(.377/17/56) has been having her worst season, but she has still been an absolute monster.

The pitching is led by Audrey Lowry(21-3/2.70/82). Lowry will you use more of curve and screwball situation, while Miali Guachino(14-2/3.09/102) is more of the rise with a much improved change up. Sydney Berzon(6-2/2.69/35) is going to the more down ball picher.

Best Win - Texas, Worst Loss - Long Beach State

Michigan - The wolverines are led by Lauren Putz(.442/21/77). The future All
American has been very very good. Jenissa Conway(.370/12/44) and Erin Hoehn(.358/5/30) both have been having their best years of all time. While Ella Stephson(.300/10/39) and Lilly Vallimont(.281/10/39) both add power and depth to the lineup.

The staff is mainly built around Gabby Ellis(13-7/4.26/61) and Erin Hoehn(8-5/4.29/95). Both of these arms need to have the weekend of their lives for them to beat OU.

Kansas - Kansas is led by the Big 3 of Anna Soles(.360/12/51), Hailey Cripe(.354/15/47), and Ella Boyer(.336/18/57). These three need to do a lot of damage for Kansas to have a successful weekend. Ava Wallace(.329/3/14) and Campbell Bagshaw(.312/10/47) both have had great seasons, Kandace Stafford(.309/7/31) adds great depth to the lineup. Presely Limbaugh(.388/1/16) is the lead off batter, and one of the most underrated leadoffs in the country.

Pitching - Lila Partridge(9-4/3.95/45) is the ace of the staff, Chole Barber(9-7/4.16/71) and Kaelee Washington(6-4/4.44/31) round out this staff. The pitching will need to step up for this squad to have a good weekend.

Binghamton - The Binghamton Bears are led by Rachel Carey (.477/14/47), She is the AE Player of the Year. Carey has hit a home run off of SJ Guerin this season. Elisa Allen(.289/16/44), and Darien McDonough(.361/4/30) are also big bats for this lineup. Maddy Dodig(.344/3/27), and Emma Lawson(.336/5/24) are the other bats that give this lineup some depth.

The pitching is rough, Olivia Kennedy(8-8/4.72/47)  and Savanna McHale(6-3/6.35/24) are the 1 and 2 options will both need to have the weekend of their lives for this squad to win.

Best win - Syracuse, Worst Loss - Colgate, Their best result was a 4-1 loss vs Virginia Tech.

My Take - Oklahoma wins all 3 games pretty handly. None of these teams will have the pitching, and Lowry + Gauchino are good enough to handle these good offenses. I don’t think OU will mercy any of them. I also have Kansas beating Michigan both time

Top 10 Players

  1. Ella Parker
  2. Kendall Wells
  3. Lauren Putz
  4. Gabbie Garcia
  5. Kai Minor
  6. Isabela Emerling
  7. Audrey Lowry
  8. Ella Boyer
  9. Kasadi Pickering
  10. Abby Dayton

Knoxville Regional Preview

Karlyn Pickens and Sage Mardjetko get Indiana, UVA and Northern Kentucky!

Biggest Storyline is that can Teneseee score, as Indiana will score. And how healthy is Erin Nuwer and Karlyn Pickens

Weather - Saturday might have some showers near early evening/mid afternoon.

Tennessee - I personally believe the offense is a little overhated, on paper it is not that bad. Sophia Knight(.420/0/9) might be the coldest player who is batting over .400, but she needs to show up this weekend. Alannah Leach(.330/12/23) and Ella Dodge(.315/11/46) are the big hitters. Taelyn Holley(.300/4/20), Emma Clarke(.259/10/31) and Gabby Leach(.262/10/31) are all very inconsistent, but will need to turn it on if the pitching does not show up.

The pitching starts with the 2x SEC Pitcher of the Year, Karlyn Pickens(13-7/1.52/157), she has her most inconsistent year, but when the riseball is working. There is nobody better. Sage Mardjekto(12-2/0.96/150) has been outstanding and she can change all plains very nicely. Erin Nuwer(14-1/1.09/81) was maybe the best player in the sport 3 months ago, but she is still here and has her drop ball/changeup that sets her apart on this staff.

Best win vs Alabama, Worst Loss - Ole Miss

Northern Kentucky -  The Norse are led by Brielle Dimemmo(.318/7/33), Kenzie Gulley(.348/0/6), and Peyton Mueller-Stenz(.333/1/20). There is not much pop on this lineup, so the Norse are going to need to not strike out this weekend.

Pitching - Makaree Chapman(8-11/4.46/69) and Alicia Flores(11-6/4.82/57) these are the top 2, but both need to have the best weekends of their lives for Northern Kentucky to get a win.

Best win - Youngstown State, and Worst Loss - Robert Morris

Virginia - Virginia is a team that I believe looks much better on paper, than they do in the eye test. Macee Eaton(.433/12/61) is the best bat on this squad and in the whole regional. Eaton hit a homer off of Payton Burhman earlier this season. Bella Cabral(.376/13/47) and Jade Hylton(.359/10/31) are both big bats that UVA needs to show up this weekend. Hylton is having her worst year, but she was very very good the past 2 seasons. Reagan Hickey(.272/10/35) is the other big bat for this squad.

The pitching staff is between - Courtney Layne(12-4/2.31/96) and Eden Bigham(14-4/3.28/102). Layne is more down movement while Bigham has the velo and the riseball. Layne threw a really good game vs Arkansas early this season. Taylor Smith(6-2/2.82/73) is the other arm to watch this weekend.

Best Win - Arkansas, Worst Loss - James Madison

Indiana - The Hoosiers are led by 2 main bats, Aly VanBrandt(.399/15/61) and Avery Parker(.368/19/65) are both elite, elite bats. Alex Cooper(.368/8/48) and Josie Bird(.354/13/62) give the lineup great depth. Madalyn Srader(.322/7/35), Brooke Mannon(.365/3/17), Hannah Haberstroh(.311/3/25), and Ellie Goins(.301/7/43)  are all able to score a lot of runs for the offense. The offense was able to hit pretty well off of Lyndsey Grien.

Pitching - Ella Troutt(12-6/2.80/57) is a very underrated pitcher, she is the Hoosier ace, and Aubree Hooks(11-2/2.36/33) is the other girl who should be getting good innings this weekend. Troutt had a ERA of 2 vs UCLA.

Best Win - Washington, Worst Loss - Iowa

My Take: UVA vs Indiana is a true coin flip in my opinion, I believe whoever wins Friday night, will lose the Saturday night rematch. I think if Indiana makes it to Sunday, they can beat Tennessee to force a game 7. Northern Kentucky gets run-ruled  both of their games.

Top 10 Players

  1. Sage Mardjekto
  2. Karyln Pickens
  3. Macee Eaton
  4. Avery Parker
  5. Aly VanBrandt
  6. Erin Nuwer
  7. Courtney Layne
  8. Bella Carbel
  9. Alannah Leach
  10. Alex Cooper

Tuscaloosa Regional Preview

The Committee absolutely stacked this regional! The biggest storylines here is the Southeastern Louisiana and Belmont are back in Tuscaloosa! Both teams were seen as a trendy upset picks, getting sent to the overall number 1 seed.

The Weather Looks great all weekend, Upper 80s, no rain!

Alabama - The number 1 Overall Seed the Tide are led by Brooke Wells(.404/22/61) and Alexis Pupillo(.403/17/55). They are an elite power combo at the top of the lineup. Marlie Giles(.382/5/28) has been another great option for this lineup at catcher. Freshman Ambrey Taylor(.330/11/35) and Ana Roman(.326/12/42) have also been great in giving the offense depth. Iowa transfer Jena Young(.322/4/26) has been great. Audrey Vanagriff(.308/7/27) has had an underwhelming year, but not a super awful year at all.

Pitching - It starts with the SEC pitcher of the year Jocelyn Briski(21-3/1.45/175). Her best pitch is her rise, and she is really good at getting weak ground outs with it. Vic Moten(19-4/1.73/158) is the other arm to watch, Moten is also rise, but has better Velo than Briski. Freshman Kaitlyn Pallozzi(8-0/1.57/56)  is the other arm to watch.

Best Win - Texas, Worst Loss - Samford

USC Upstate Spartans are led by Sophia Kardtzkate(.404/6/27) and Taliyah Thomas(.418/7/48) Thomas is the Big South Player of the Year and has 7/13 against Power 4 schools. Carson Shaw(.356/5/36) and Abby Polk(.338/3/27) are the other big bats in this lineup.

Pitching its going to be all Maddie Drenup(20-13/3.26/104). Anna Dickinson(6-4/6.27/22) is the other name to watch, but expect Drenup to get most of the innings this weekend. Dickinson did throw a very good game against Auburn.

Best win Winthrop, worst Loss - Charleston Southern

Southeastern Louisiana - The Lions are good. This is a very talented team, that offensively uses a lot of slappers and basestealing. Shelby Morris(.400/3/33) and Cydnee Schenider(.394/1/39) lead the offense. Maria Detillier(.311/9/56) is their main RBI hitter. Ka’Lyn Watson(.359/9/35) is back and fits in super well. And Brilee Ford(.364/5/39) has been a great addition at the bottom of the lineup.

Pitching stars with Cera Blanchard(13-2/1.08/68) She is going to be a lot of down movement and mostly groundballs, while Hallie Burns(20-4/1.73/76) will be lots of up movement. Bruns is the Southland Pitcher of the year. Burns had a very good outing against Oregon. Macie LaRue(6-3/1.99/65) is the other pitcher to watch.

Best Win - Oregon, Worst Loss - Nicholls

Belmont - The Belmont offense revolves around 2 main girls, Rylee Spindler(.456/3/40) 0/1 and Nicole Hughes(.361/8/34) 0/2Madison Dolecki(.301/7/34) is the other one who must show up this weekend. Belmont beat Georgia off a Spindler home run, Dolecki got the RBI vs Mississippi State. These three need to give Johnson some kind of help.

Maya Johnson(27-2/0.66/381), Best pitcher in the country, has wins over Mississippi State and Georgia. There is no true way to beat her. Best riseball in the country, she has great control, and good Velo. Ellie Gilles(5-2/2.49/54),  is the 2nd option, She is good enough to beat USC Upstate.

My Take - Alabama wins, and Belmont both win Friday. Briski wins game 1 vs Johnson, than Belmont beats SELA again later that night. Johnson beats Moten Sunday afternoon, but Briski gets the win again late Sunday Afternoon

Top 10 players

  1. Maya Johnson
  2. Jocelyn Briski
  3. Brooke Wells
  4. Vic Moten
  5. Lexi Pupillo
  6. Halle Burns
  7. Shelby Morris
  8. Ana Roman
  9. Marlie Giles
  10. Rylee Splinder

Stillwater Regional Preview

The Stillwater Regional gets 13 Oklahoma State, Stanford, Princeton, and Eastern Illinois starting Friday Afternoon.

There aren’t any true storylines, only one being can Taryn Kern and Stanford beat Ruby Meylan and the OKSU staff.

The weather is looking good for this weekend. High 80s, and no rain in sight!

Oklahoma State - This offense does not have the most high end talent, but Amanda Hasler(.290/12/58) and Rosie Davis(.327/14/46) are both able to get the job done. Claire Timm(.345/8/30 and Karli Godwin(.318/7/25) are both having bounce back seasons this year. Aubrey Jones(.313/4/24) has been a great addition at 2nd base.

Pitching Wise - It is all Ruby Meylan(27-7/2.11/205). Meylan has had an outstanding past 2 months, after a slow start to the season. Meylan has wins over Oklahoma, Texas and Nebraska.  She is 23-3 since the start of March. Her drop ball has been her go to pitch this season. RyLee Crandall(6-6/5.67/39) has been very very ehh this season.

Best win is Texas, Worst Loss - Wichita State

Eastern Illinois - Sophia Olman(.303/9/42) is the best bat in this lineup. She is the one that will need to get on base and also get some runners home for this squad to win. Lizzie Stiverson(.376/4/29) and Lexie Griffin(.275/9/39) are the other big bats in this lineup.

Pitching wise - Eastern Illinois uses three main pitchers, Rylan Glick(12-4/3.94/89), Karlie McKenzie(13-9/4.16/108), and Bryanna French(10-6/3.55/72). Glick and Mckenzie are more of the starters and French will come into relief.

Best win - St. Louis, Worst Loss - Florida A&M

Princeton -  The Tigers offense is led by Graciela Dominguez(.435/2/23) and Julia Dumais(.386/5/34). Both are a great spark at the top of the order. Karis Ford(.377/6/28) and Mia Valenzuela(.371/7/32) are the main power threats.

The pitching is very solid, Cassidy Shaw(16-3/2.57/102) and Reece Uehara(9-2/2.92/33) are both good options and are a very solid mid-major 1-2.

Best Win Notre Dame, Worst Loss - Dartmouth, Best performance was a 4-7 Loss vs Grand Canyon.

Stanford - The Stanford Cardinal are led by Taryn Kern(.387/18/44) and Kyra Chan(.387/5/33). Kern is a former 2 time All American. Ava Gall(.368/5/33), Jade Berry(.313/4/45), and Emily Jones(.404/2/21) are all having worse years than expected but are able to give this offense nice depth. Jones is one of the most underrated lead-off hitters in the country.

The pitching has been much better than expected, Zoe Prystajko(20-5/2.5/198) has a great riseball and has a lot of strike outs. Zoe has wins over OKSU, Oregon, and  Florida State. Her best performance of the season was against Arizona.  Anna Brewer(5-2/4.56/34)  has a the drop ball of the staff. Brewer had a very good performance vs Duke this season.

Best Win - Florida State, Worst Loss - Notre Dame

In the first weekend of the season, Oklahoma State got destroyed by Stanford. Crandall got it really hard, Meylan allowed 10 hits in 4 innings. Taryn Kern went 4/5 at the plate, and Stanford in general hit 20/49. The Oklahoma State offense struggled against Alyssa Houston. Davis and Halser went a combined 0/10.

Top 10 players

  1. Ruby Meylan
  2. Taryn Kern
  3. Emily Jones
  4. Zoe Pyrastjko
  5. Amanda Halser
  6. Krya Chan
  7. Rosie Davis
  8. Claire Timm
  9. Karli Godwin
  10. Graciela Dominguez

My Take: I think both Stanford and Oklahoma State win Friday’s games. I think Princeton beats Eastern Illinois. I think Meylan beats Prystajko Saturday.  But Taryn Kern and Stanford have a big day on Sunday, and take out the Cowgirls. Crandall gets lit up in the first game Sunday, and Kern hits a big one off of Meylan. Late Sunday Afternoon.
