Deinfluence me please!
I am dying to paint my kitchen cabinets.
First off, I live with my husband and toddler, but they DGAF about home design and decor so they don’t get a say.
We are planning a major renovation on the main levels of our house, but that is probably five years out. We have been living in this house for five years, and I think I’m reaching my breaking point with the kitchen and don’t know if I can make it another five years. I spend so much time in the kitchen and it is such a demoralizing space.
It is the ugliest and least functional kitchen known to women. The cabinets are original to the house which was built in the 60s, but they are homemade plywood with dark stain and are finished with shellac. They are shiny, but in the worst way. They are impossible to clean, and the shellac is wearing off in some places and gummy in others.
Now, I love wood. But this house is lousy with it and it’s all orange-toned. We have pine floors and pine panelling on the walls and all of it is orange shellac. I have a lot of experience with DIY renovations and painting furniture so I know painting the kitchen cabinets will be a massive pain in the ass but they can’t get any *worse* right? Right??
Am I setting myself up for failure? I know this is a lipstick on a pig situation so I guess I’m just looking for a gut check. So Deinfluence me! Or influence me I guess. Should I paint the cabinets y/n?
