Time tracking in Pirate Borg coming from B/X

I’m coming from B/X and I’ve really fallen in love with Pirate Borg, but I’m confused about how time tracking works. Sorry if I just missed something obvious in the book.

A lot of things are measured in hours (torches, debuffs, etc.), but the rules never explain how you’re supposed to keep track of those hours. It’s not like B/X, where there are turns and outdoor turns that keep ticking even when the PCs are “waiting.”

For example:

  • A torch lasts 1 hour, when do I actually consider that hour to have passed in the fiction?
  • A character is unconscious for 1 hour, is that just a narrative block, or should I be marking it somehow?
  • I can already imagine players saying “let’s just wait out the debuff for an hour,” and then all the risk disappears.

Is there a “right” way people handle this in Pirate Borg, either by RAW or just common practice? How do you decide when an hour has actually passed, and how do you stop players from trivializing time‑based effects by saying “we wait it out”?
