Hi, I just went to the ophthalmologist and feel a little worried about some of the things she said. Wondering if anyone could reassure me/help explain changes in my prescription.
I’m in my early 30s and have worn glasses for more than 20 years. I wear them all the time except when I run. I am an editor so I’m looking at a computer screen all day.
In October 2023, I went to an ophthalmologist I didn’t really like and got the attached prescription. I have a family history of thyroid disease, which affects the eyes, so I wanted to ensure I got a full baseline exam in case that hits me too. I’ve been seeing pretty well with the glasses I got after this visit.
Recently, a loved one pointed out to me that my eyes looked like they’d been crossing and my right eye pointed inward. I didn’t see this myself but was worried enough to schedule an appt with another doc since I figured I was due for one anyway. I think I was kind of hoping to prove her wrong.
When I raised the strabismus issue with the dr, she tested me and said she didn’t see any horizontal issues but actually saw some vertical heterophobia. She did a lot of tests where she simulated double vision and said my eyes were “very fragile” because I had trouble with these tests. She was also concerned about my asymmetric optic nerve and number of floaters. We talked about putting a prism into the next pair I get, and she also suggested getting some sort of booster that would help me with reading up close. I didn’t like any of the frames at her office, so I didn’t make any moves.
I guess I’m just overwhelmed at how I went from “you’re fine!” to “you’re fragile” in such a short time period. Wondering if I should seek a second opinion and just how worried I should be. I’ve attached the prescriptions and can send a pic of eyes if needed lol. Thank you!
