Grips or tape?

Grips or tape?

I'm purchasing some Velo Orange Crazy bars to try something new. I'm out of grip tape (I just rewrapped my dedicated gravel bike) and from all the reviews I've seen, easiest to wrap the "horns" part, but some have grips and some wrap the entire bar. Got me thinking.

Anyone using flat or alt bars (because 99.99% of dropbars are wrapped) on their commuter, are you using grip tape wrapped on them? Or actual grips. Which one and why? Comfort, grip, because it's what you had?

Anyone with the crazy bars, I would love to hear from you especially.

Tempo real world range?

I have a Ride1Up Roadster V2 Gravel and the range is horrible. I knew that when I got it, but it's much worse. Ride1Up advertises "20-30" miles, but serioulsy can get 15 miles with a mix of 1-2-3 levels of PAS and very light or zero throttle use. There are some climbs and downhills (overpasses for freeways).

The main issue is that there is no removable battery. So I've been looking at the new Tempo, but does anyone have one and can give some feedback on real world range? It'd be nice to see a reviewer test throttles too, like keep it going the entire time to just see the actual range for it.

Regardless, how are the Tempo riders doing using like PAS level 3 or 4? Are you able to easily get the range needed, like I'd say at least 30 miles on a single charge. The removeable battery will help so I can bring it in to charge at work.

And last question, what color? I'm not a fan of green or silver, but since those are the choices, what's it look like in the real world? Not studio pictures for the websites.

Where do you get your bike parts?

I see some older posts, so thought I would get some updates. I personally order online from Performance Bikes (they are nearby), Jenson USA and Bike Tires Direct. I will get specialized (not the bike company) parts and "oddball" stuff direct from the maker. Sometimes, even Etsy.

FB Marketplace (I still hate them) and PinkBike are where I get used stuff. And of course, I go to the various LBS's around me at various times, including REI, for like tubes, grip tape, etc.

How about you all?

Outdoor speakers = bad neighbor

Anyone with outdoor speakers that use them more than just on various weekends, you are bad. Very bad. Like public places, get some headphones. No one wants to listen to your shitty music choices. We only want to listen to our own shitty choices.

That said, anyone experience this and if yes, what did you do when talking with them failed? EG po-po do anything? Civil complaints? Spiteful vengence?

And yes, I am experiencing it now, and yes I plan to talk to them (first) if it keeps up (it just started so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to how much use and how loud). But just shoring up alternatives if the time comes.

Question, do you all think that a single, electric G line would work as an AIO bike choice. I currently ride a combo of an acoustic gravel, electric gravel and a Brompton (M6L) for commute, trails and city riding for fun.

My current Brompton is great for the multimodal commute (3 miles to the train, sometimes 14 mile ride all the way home) and quick shopping to the nearby grocery store (fold and put under the cart and use a backpack to carry food home).

I use the acoustic gravel sometimes for the multimodal, but purely with the intention to ride to the train in the morning, then all the way home after work. This bike is never left anywhere, so I don't use it for anything else but trails or longer fun rides where it will never be out of sight.

Electric gravel is for commuting both to and from work all the way. I don't take it on the train (too heavy to lift up the steps of the train - yes we still have those old ass trains that you need to step up into) and tooling around. Again, not used for much else because a) no bike rack I have right now for handles it's weight and b) it's older so the battery doesn't get as much range.

I've been thinking of replacing all three (and another hybrid city bike that I rarely ride) with a electric G line (hence "eG"). It's the $5,000 price tag that has my hairs standing up. Even selling all 3 or 4 bikes would barely make a dent in that price tag and I would need at least $3,000 cash to cover the cost.

Anyone think it's worth it? And yes, G because disc brakes and 20" wheels. I like the 16" wheels, but to replace my gravel bike I would need the G line. I don't race gravel, just a lot of light packed and some hill trails. Nothing crazy, I'm too old for that now.

Scored a good deal on one for $600 to try out whether it's time to move to ebikes. This is the "gravel" edition of the V2 and has some bit worn out WTB Riddler (40mm) tires. I have some 37mm Riddlers that I ran tubeless on another gravel (acoustic) that I just cleaned up.

I've been reading that going tubeless on an ebike can be less than optimal, probably because of the weight I'm assuming. I've see a couple posts that Ride1Up rims are not tubeless ready, but just about any rim can be tubeless with some good taping (not all, just most).

So anyone out there with the V2 gravel edition with some experience? Or should I stick to tubes? This is going to be a mostly commute bike, about 80% pavement and 20% light packed gravel.

▲ 1 r/ebikes

Was going to get an "pre-built" ebike, but decided to just build my own with a kit. I'm not ready for a piece together kit quite yet and I don't need to rival motorcycles. Just something to give me a "boost" as I age.

Looking at LVBU and Geeko since they seem to be the only ones with thru axle rear hub motors. Ideally, I'm trying to keep as light as possible as I convert one of my gravel bikes. But they seem (at least for the bottle kits) to be the same. They are both from China, so I'm assuming they are the same design.

Anyone with experience with the thru axle kits? Or either brand, recently? Not one of the 4 or 6 year old posts I've seen. Thanks.
