My daughter coughs, then passes out, multiple times a day

My 13yo daughter is coughing, then passing out. Sometimes she coughs again and comes out of it on her own. Other times she acts like she’s sleepwalking, where she will get up and walk around, running into things, or if she’s sitting or laying down, she will bite things, along with flailing around.

At first, it was just the coughing, passing out, coming out of it, and she was fine. That lasted for about a week. Then, the sleepwalking thing started, but only at night when she wasn’t fully asleep yet. Today, the sleepwalking thing has been happening all day too.

She has had two other times in the last couple years where a part of this has happened. She will cough/gag, then stop breathing (still fully conscious), then cough/gag, not breathe, etc. Those episodes could last for 30 seconds, up to 30 mins. (When she coughs, she breathes in and out, so she doesn’t stop breathing the whole time.)

This time, that’s happening now, has the addition of the sleepwalking or whatever it is, along with coughing and choking as she goes to sleep. Once she’s fully asleep, she is fine, and breathes normally all night.

She had a stomach bug, and then this started, and her allergies have been bad. She takes Claritin every day. We know she has a mold allergy. I also started her on Flonase for 2 weeks to help with swelling in her nose. That was started 4 days ago, but I stopped it after yesterday in case it could be causing the sleepwalking episodes.

My questions are:

  1. Could she have vasovagal syncope?

  2. Could the Flonase cause these additional symptoms—the sleepwalking or whatever it is?

  3. Is the sleepwalking thing part of vasovagal syncope?

  4. Do you all have any ideas for where to go from here?

I’ll answer questions. I’m desperate to try to help her. Thank you in advance.
