Under the guidance of Amol Yedge, civic chief of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation, and the supervision of Chief Garden Officer Dr Vijay Patil, a special drive is underway to help city trees ‘breathe freely’.

The campaign involves removing nails, posters, wires and ropes from tree trunks. Paver blocks and concrete tightly laid around tree roots are also being cleared, and scientifically designed tree basins are being created to ensure trees receive adequate air and water for healthy growth.

Ironically, bullet noise invites fines. But, then why mass honking gets ignored. Why this double standard, CSN City Police? I believe no one is above the law.

The brainchild of the IIT alumnus Mr Sandeep Pathak, the YouTube channel of Jingle Toons, today, has over 4 crore subscribers and over billion views.

For me, it was quite exciting to see the YouTube 'Play Buttons' in real, especially the Diamond button, awarded to those who crossed 10 million subscribers.

Mr Pathak is also the founder of AniSkool, an education institution that provides courses in animations.

"Maharashtra mein rehke Marathi nahi aati? Sharm aani chahiye tumko.”

That line hit differently.

Because here we are in 2026, almost 40+ years later, and the situation doesn’t feel very different.

In Maharashtra, especially in urban areas, it often feels like:

Marathi people themselves switch to Hindi very quickly

Non-Marathi residents can live for years without learning even basic Marathi

The expectation to adapt seems one-sided

This isn’t about forcing language on anyone . it’s about respect for the local culture and identity. Every state in India has its linguistic pride, but in Maharashtra, it sometimes feels diluted.

What’s interesting is that even back in 1987, this was recognized enough to be written into a film dialogue. That means this isn’t a new issue . it’s something that has been quietly continuing for decades.

Maybe one reason is that Marathi people are generally accommodating and not very aggressive about enforcing language use. That’s a strength culturally, but it also means the issue never really gets addressed seriously.

So the question is:

Should there be more effort from non-Marathi residents to learn the language of the state they live in?

Or should things just continue as they are in the spirit of inclusiveness?

Or should political parties do the needful based on their Street power and force outsiders to learn Marathi by Hook or crook?

Just found it unfortunate and a bit surprising how a decades-old dialogue still feels so relevant today.

But will the same penalties apply to those plastic-wrapped bouquets presented to ministers, glittery plastic poppers that litter the streets after political and religious rallies, and disposable ₹10 water bottles served at municipal press conferences and cabinet meetings?
