If you had to start a roofing company from scratch in 2026, what would you do differently?

Serious question for the experienced roofers / owners here.

If you had to restart today with zero — no brand, no crew, no customers — but you do have your knowledge…

What would you do differently this time?

- Would you still rely on paid leads (Angi, Thumbtack, etc.)?

- Focus more on organic/referrals?

- Hire sales reps earlier or later?

- Invest in systems/automation from day one?

I’m especially curious what mistakes you’d avoid the second time around.

Feels like a lot of guys learn things the hard way after losing time + money.

Would love to hear how you’d approach it in 2026.

Roofing contractors: what’s your CLOSE RATE on inbound calls?

Genuine question — I’ve been digging into roofing sales lately and I’m seeing a massive gap between companies.

Some are closing 37–52% of inbound calls…

Others are barely hitting 11–16%.

So I’m curious:

What’s your average close rate from inbound calls?

Who’s answering the phone? (you, office staff, sales rep?)

How fast are you picking up / calling back missed calls?

From what I’ve seen, speed + first impression seems to matter way more than most people think.

Would love to hear real numbers (even rough estimates).
