P25A9-00 on 2.0D Ingenium (XF X260) - Can the Piston Cooling Solenoid be replaced without removing the thermostat?

Hi everyone,

I’m getting a P25A9(00) error (Piston Cooling Oil Control Solenoid - Open Circuit) on my Jaguar XF (X260) with the 2.0 Diesel Ingenium engine. Along with this, I'm getting the "Low Oil Level" red warning on the dash, even though my actual oil pressure is fine (measured 1.7-2.0 bar at idle via OBD).

I know the official procedure says I need to remove the thermostat housing to get to the solenoid (AJ813393), but I just replaced the thermostat a month ago and I really don’t want to drain the coolant and mess with those gaskets again if I don't have to.

My question is: Has anyone successfully replaced this solenoid by only removing the EGR tube and working in that tight space? Is there enough clearance to pull the solenoid out of the block without the thermostat being in the way?

I’m planning to do this DIY since I’m on a tight budget. Any tips on tools (flex extensions, etc.) or "hacks" to avoid pulling the thermostat would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
