Ok guys this maybe a really dumb question but help me out. I'm trying to repair a ps5. I need a UART reader. I remembered I have a pi pico lying around. Would it be possible to use it as a UART reader
Im gonna try keep this short but probably fail. I bought a faulty ps5 that has the issue in the video below ( 3 beeps and green screen). I learnt online that this issue might be an issue with Ur TV and not the ps5. When I received lt I can't fully recall what happened the first time but I do know that there was 3 beeps and the same ps5 not shutting down properly screen flashed that flashed in the sellers video. However no green screen. That was just the first time tho. Now when I start it there no 3 beeps, a repair image shows (will post in comments )it then restarts and shows please wait... For a few seconds after which it shuts down. I decided to start in safe mode and try a few things. Here what I tried :
Change video output -> Change resolution. It says change resolution when ps5 restarts. However the ps5 just shuts down
Clear cache -> ps5 restarts and gives an option menu for resolution (maybe cause that's what I tried before? But I don't think so since I restarted) I selected 1080 then it shuts down. Was gonna try rebuild database but it says might take few hours and I didn't have that time.
I decided to reinstall system software. I got it onto my usb. Got the reinstall option then clicked ok when it said I need a usb. It scanned for a bit then the ps5 shuts down.
After that I decided let me just try reset ps5 option. And voila the ps5 started. I got up to the stage where I was selecting username and it shut down.
now I'm back to square one where the ps5 shows my pic (in comments) and then shows please wait. I suspect that if I rest again the same thing will happen and it'll power down.
all this leads me to believe that the OG owner had 2 issues (the TV one and a second not holding power/ shutting down issue) the TV ones resolved but not the power one. A few things to note : every time the ps5 shuts down in the above scenarios when I try turn it on again the power button does nothing the 1st time I press it. I then have to wait for a bit before trying again. I didn't have a ps5 power cable so I used my series X power cable ( should work according to a Reddit post instead and chat gpt). I will try get a legit one of my friend when I can. I am down to open up the console.
