The Media Power Play: Is TVK Buying Its Way Into Mainstream Media?

Whispers on social media have shifted from casual speculation to focused industry rumors. Tweets explicitly mentions that TVK is in talks to acquire a major Tamil news outlet. The clue provided—"Sivanthi"—points directly toward the legacy of the Thanthi Group, the powerhouse behind Thanthi TV.

The ₹2,000 Crore Question

Thanthi TV isn’t just another channel; it is a pillar of Tamil media with a valuation estimated at approximately ₹2,000 Crore. For a political party that is relatively new to the electoral landscape, this raises immediate red flags.

  • Financial Disparity: How does a nascent political organization, yet to prove its long-term electoral treasury, manage a multi-billion rupee acquisition?
  • The Funding Gap: Traditional political funding (membership drives and small donations) rarely scales this quickly to cover "legacy media" price tags.

"Personal Astrologer or Government Officer?" — Premalatha Vijayakanth slams CM Vijay for appointing his "Rajaguru" to a high-ranking state position.

Premalatha is calling out the CM for blurring the lines between personal belief and state governance. She referred to Rathan Pandian as the CM's "Rajaguru" (Royal Astrologer/Advisor) and argued that if the CM wants personal spiritual or astrological guidance, he should keep it private—not put them on the government payroll as a "Special Political Officer."
She also raised heat on:
The "Masked" Visitors: Asking for transparency on who is visiting the CM in secret vehicles.
Integrity of the House: Questioning what kind of message this sends to the youth who voted for a "modern" and "transparent" leadership.
Is it fair to have a personal spiritual advisor in a government role, or is Premalatha right to call this a "shame" for the assembly? 🧐

The irony of state politics has come full circle as Chief Minister Vijay finds himself reaching for the pen. After buildng a political narrative centered on "decisive action" and mocking previous administrations for doing nothing more than "writing letters" to the Union Government regarding the plight of Tamil Nadu fishermen, the CM has officially written to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.

TASMAC Reality: Number of Shops vs Total Revenue

Number of TASMAC shops vs Total Revenue

Closing shops isn't the solution! I wish the current TVK government would at least consider opening rehab centers across the state, while simultaneously educating the public on responsible drinking and general alcohol awareness.

If the goal of closing shops near schools is to prevent students from drinking, it won't work. Nothing will stop them from traveling a little farther to get it; in fact, they might prefer it so they aren't caught by someone they know. Alcohol awareness, sexual awareness, and comprehensive sex education are how you truly handle these issues.

You can't cure addiction simply by making the substance inaccessible. Forcing someone to go 'cold turkey' can make the situation worse, as they may resort to extreme, even dangerous, measures to get what they want.

We should look to Portugal, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic as examples. These countries decriminalized consumption and even opened centers to provide safe access, but then helped people overcome addiction through regulation and rehabilitation. In almost all of Europe, alcohol is served in coffee shops, restaurants, and kiosks from early morning until late at night, and they manage just fine. It is about teaching people to be responsible rather than simply banning things. Banning is never the solution!

Conducting a real, extensive study to understand the root causes of why people drink and then helping them overcome those issues would be a W for the government!

Why hasn't TVK commented on the NEET fiasco?

Why hasn't CM Vijay or TVK given an official statement on the current fiasco? Are they afraid of union govt and the Karur case?

When the State Government starts following "Angel Numbers."

There is a question being raised about whether the decision to close exactly 717 TASMAC shops was influenced by astrology or "angel numbers".
The image highlights a post by Rho Chamaswamy questioning the specific number 717. On the left, we see the "717 Angel Number" which supposedly represents spiritual awakening and life path guidance. Meanwhile, the Tamil text on the right mentions a new government appointment for an "Officer on Special Duty" (OSD) linked to the Chief Minister.
Is the administration looking for spiritual guidance for their policy shifts, or is this just a massive coincidence?

Journalist Sandhya Ravishankar calls out traffic chaos caused by VIP convoys

In a recent post, Sandhya Ravishankar tagged the CMO, TVK, and Chennai Traffic police regarding the "huge traffic chaos" caused by recent movements and convoys.

She’s requesting that these movements happen during non-peak hours so the city doesn't have to come to a standstill. What are your thoughts on how VIP movements should be handled in Chennai?

Stop endangering lives with illegal banners! Arappor Iyakkam calls out the dangerous "banner culture" in Tamil Nadu.

The anti-corruption NGO Arappor Iyakkam has issued a stern message regarding the reappearance of massive banners and flagpoles in public spaces, as seen in image.png. Here is the translation of their statement:
The Message:
Do you want to thank the people? Then do something good for them.
Stop endangering lives by engaging in such anti-social acts.
• Many have died after being electrocuted by overhead wires while erecting banners and flagpoles like these.
• Countless others have lost their lives when banners placed on roadsides and footpaths fell onto passing motorists.
Has no wisdom been gained even after all these tragedies?
The Demand:
Arappor Iyakkam asserts that the only solution is to impose severe punishment on those who illegally erect banners without permission and put public safety at risk.

“We struggled to eat” — meanwhile pre-acting Vijay casually carrying a ~$1000 Sony camcorder on a foreign winter trip in the early 90s

Not being “royal lineage” is one thing. Pretending this was some extreme poverty background is another.

This photo was reportedly taken before Vijay became a lead actor.

Foreign holiday in cold regions
Expensive winter wear
Sony camcorder that cost around $1000 back then (luxury-tier consumer tech in India at the time)
Adjusted for today, that setup alone would cost several lakhs.

There’s nothing wrong with coming from privilege. But the constant “we struggled to even eat” narrative feels heavily exaggerated when the family already had strong industry access, financial comfort, and exposure most middle-class families in the 90s couldn’t dream of.
