TVK’s “24 SC/ST MLAs” Claim Is Misleading — All Came From Reserved Seats, While Congress Had the Only SC Winner From a General Seat

TVK’s claim is misleading because it presents its 23 SC MLAs and 1 ST MLA as proof of extraordinary social justice or inclusive representation. But all those victories came from reserved constituencies, where every party is legally required to field SC/ST candidates. That does not show that TVK gave SC/ST leaders meaningful representation in open/general seats. According to The Hindu’s report, the only SC candidate who won from a non-reserved constituency was from Congress. So the accurate claim is not that TVK broke barriers in representation, but that it won several seats that were already reserved for SC/ST candidates.

TVK officials threaten TASMAC bar managers

Pallipalayam, May 7: A stir was caused in Pallipalayam when TVK party officials surrounded bar owners and threatened them to vacate, stating that the responsibility of running TASMAC bars would henceforth belong to them.

The Incident

In the Pallipalayam Union of Namakkal district, there are 15 government TASMAC bars, and in Komarapalayam town and Pallipalayam town combined, there are 21 licensed bars in operation.

On the 4th of this month, as TVK took the lead during the vote counting, and immediately following the conclusion of the count that night, TVK officials directly confronted the bar owners.

The Confrontation

TVK officials reportedly issued threats, saying:

>

They met with owners of all 21 bars in the constituency to issue this warning.

The Response

The bar owners resisted, stating:

>

In response, TVK officials warned that bars would only be allowed to operate strictly from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM as per government regulations, and they would not tolerate even a minute's delay beyond those hours. They threatened to lodge police complaints if any "hindrances" or "threats" were made by the owners.

Police Complaint

In a counter-move, TVK administrators went to the Pallipalayam police station and filed a complaint, alleging that liquor was being sold illegally (black market) in TASMAC bars. They demanded immediate action.

Public Reaction

While the public expected the implementation of total prohibition (as promised), the sight of TVK members eagerly trying to take over the bars immediately after the vote count has left many shocked and surprised.
