URGENT HELP/ADVICE? Dealer fraud, illegal repossession?!
***update THIS EMAIL IS FALSE, I DID NOT IGNORE THEM. I have all the screenshots between us!! Read the entire post please!!.***
I am dealing with what looks like a mix of auto fraud, a yo‑yo sale, and harassment from a dealer!! I’m a disabled individual, my resources are limited; I’m hoping for advice, experiences, or lawyer recommendations. Sorry for the long post!!
Here’s the situation:
I went to the VW dealership with two individuals, I had my own financing already approved. I had a lender, terms, and everything ready.
The dealership told me VW Credit would give me better terms. They said I “qualified” and that VW financing was approved. This is the ONLY reason I agreed to switch lenders and take possession of my car.
I had a trade in, they advertised an “underwater” sale. They told me they’d give me $15k (this is low end value) in trade, verbally, on the deal sheets, etc. Signed contract of sale, left with vehicle on May 8th. I didn’t hear much from them until last Friday.
Out of nowhere, they told me I didn’t qualify, that I needed to come in and sign a new contract.
They then said they were going to “report the car as stolen” if I didn’t come in immediately. Multiple employees contacted me, demanding I “drop off the keys.”
I woke up today and my car was gone. My trade-in is still in their possession. They removed the vehicle from my possession without notice. No default. No right‑to‑cure. No advance notice, just threats.
They sent a “notice” after I contacted the police, AFTER taking it.
I have screenshots of the threats, the pressure, the contradictions, and their written admissions. PLUS TWO WITNESSES who were present the entire transaction.
I’m disabled, and losing my transportation caused me to miss a medical appt this morning. I have kids. They didn’t even bother to return my trade, saying I need to come pick it up!
From what I’ve researched, this violates multiple Utah laws. Yes, I’ve already filed with Consumer Protection, with MVED and the AG, but I need:
• Utah lawyer recommendations (auto fraud / consumer protection)
• Anyone who’s dealt with this dealership
• Anyone who’s fought a wrongful repossession or yo‑yo sale in Utah
• Any advice on next steps
I have screenshots, emails, and documentation of everything.
Any help is appreciated. Urgent. Pic is of email from customer care, full of blatant lies. Please help.
