Non-fault accident
Hi all — I was recently involved in a non-fault accident. I was driving on a main road with a 40mph speed limit when a young driver pulled out in front of me behind another car. My car braked automatically before I even had time to react. Thankfully, nobody was injured. My car only suffered some scratches to the bumper, while their car ended up with a dent to the right wing/fender.
At the scene, the other driver accepted liability and even admitted they “couldn’t see” before pulling out. However, their dad later contacted me asking to sort it outside of insurance and then later claiming they had not accepted liability and that I was somehow at fault because I still hit them.
I’ve already informed my insurance company, and they’ve told me the other driver is clearly at fault. They’ve authorised the repair, and I’ve chosen to use the manufacture to repair the bumper rather than their preferred body shop.
I also took photos of both the damage and the road layout, including the other driver’s reported view at the time. Unfortunately, I don’t have dashcam footage or CCTV, and my insurer hasn’t asked me for any additional evidence so far.
I’m keen to get this resolved as quickly as possible as the situation is causing me a fair amount of stress. I was not at fault in this incident and would not accept anything less than 100% liability being attributed to the other driver, particularly as I do not want this affecting my NCD.
Has anyone experienced a situation where the other driver later changed their version of events or denied responsibility after initially admitting fault?
Many thanks for any help/advice
Edit: I have drawn a road layout and placed it in the comments
UPDATE: The other driver has admitted liability. I am now sorting out the necessary repairs with their insurer.
