Why has going to university become such a cultural norm?

Hi,

I have wondered this and wondered it for quite some time.

Why has going to University become such a cultural norm?

I'm all for it when its a genuine right choice, but to me it seems loads of people do it, and it is not the right choice, something thats done on a whim or doesn't actually get them the benefits in the world of work.

Also theres the side discussion about student debt.

Ok, I've never been myself and it doesn't appeal to me because I woudn't call myself an academic (just for disclosure).

I do think a cultural norm has developed over the years when it comes to university attendance.

Many people do things that are not the right fit for them personally, just to fit in with a prevailing cultural/societal norm of the time they live in.

If this is true, where has it come from, why has it come about and is it beneficial to the country as a whole?

Hello.

I'm a dual UK-EU national and had this strange interaction.

I have been to 19 EU countries (Croatia being number 19) and been to some countries more than once.

Any ideas as to what's behind this?

Hello,

My local GP has referred me to Well BTN Trans clinic for continuation of HRT.

Does anyone in my situation have any knowledge of bow the process works.

I have both a UK/Romanian GRC and have live full time for 13 years and have taken HRT officially under CHX GIC (now Tavistock).

While I change over from one to the other can I keep my hormone regimen?

Hi

While i put forward my petition last night, another member put forward a good idea thats well worth a signal boost.

If you are feel comfortable and safe to do so, arrange an in person meeting with your MP or a phone call with them to discuss the supreme court stuff.

I have sent the email and a letter but the other person had a point. We can have a one on one with the MP and put forward our concerns personally.

While letters and emails are great, they are less likely to change minds and somewhat likely to be fobbed off.

If your MP is a fence sitter or is any way undecided, or maybe even uneducated in this area of trans rights, a in person visit or call will cut through the smoke (metaphorically speaking) in a way written comms are less likely to do.

Just thought I'd take the time to signal boost this.

As with letters and emails, some MPs are more likely than others to be able to change thier minds on reciept of reasoned evidence

I have made a petition. Please note it is in pre approval stages and need up to 5 signatures before it can be sent to moderation team for an approval decision.

Title:

Assess whether Goodwin vs UK could be breached by Supreme Court ruling.

Wording:

We are asking for the government to commit to a formal assesment of whether the ruling related to trans people by the Supreme Court could put the UK in breach of of Goodwin vs UK in the EUctHR before passing any legislation.

While we are regular citizens, we notice that Michael O'Flaherty from the Court of Europe sent a letter dated 03/10/2025 expressing his concerns.

The letter from Mr O'Flaherty appears to express concern about blanket bans to access to gender segregated spaces, such as toilets.

It appears to us that the wording of this letter appears to indicate that it is possible that the UK could become in breach of Goodwin vs UK should such legislation be passed.
