My roommates' 97 TJ threw a couple check engine lights, then stopped running entirely. The hint was that the CEL **wasn't** coming on when I turned the key. Capacitors had leaked and dissolved the flex PCB, the 5v regulator circuit was straight up gone! I tried repairing it with new capacitors but there just wasn't enough left. As a hail mary before spending hundreds on a used ECU that probably has the same issues, I tried two $0.50 5v regulators from Amazon and it worked! The check engine light even stopped tripping and the engine runs better lol. Not a bad fix for $1. Screw Chrysler for using shitty capacitors, and why is this this even a flex PCB?? Anyway I smothered it in 3M Quadrack hot glue and resealed it with RTV before bolting it back on and sending it around the back 40.

Currently have an old RV battery strapped to my front hitch and even that's not enough. I'm planning on adding a hidden winch too but the TDI is ~300lbs lighter than the 4.0 and both shorter & lighter than a 2.5L. It's impossible to find these things online, and all the aftermarket springs are for heavy duty stuff! EDIT: I'm located in northern california but can travel within ~200mi to pick up. Shipping might be an option too!

Just finished my TDI swap, so some diesely noises are expected however it shouldn't sound like a Caterpillar dozer. New AX15 external slave, new LuK clutch, Centerforce throwout bearing. Running Royal Purple MTF in the trans, the first break in change didn't have any concerning chunks or particles. Started rattling within the first 80 miles, and it goes away when I engage the clutch or push on the synchros. I don't hear it in gear, but it's hard to tell for sure. Hoping it's a throwout bearing.
