Point optimization feels like a part-time job (and that’s their goal)

Taking advantage of all points and credit card rewards is intended to be hard and it’s only getting worse

For example: Amex gives $600 in travel credit, but it’s forced to be split semi annual $300 / $300 and within specific hotels. The only way to benefit from this is to stay 1 night under $400 because the rest of the nights have higher prices to make up for their losses of $300. And since it’s semi annual, you’re forced to set reminders and ensure you force in this “vacation” somewhere.

It’s just become this game where you take a bunch of time and energy to practically just break even.

I’m over it

Thoughts on Nekajui Peninsula Papagayo (Ritz-Carlton Reserve)?

Flying in from United States. The idea is a 5 night stay with a young family

  • Is getting to airport easy?
  • Is it safe to/from airport? Actual resort safe?
  • It looks like even if you book with points, there's a mandatory $110 daily destination fee which would be $550 for us (which of course gets you practically nothing - I guess a $1 energy bar at the gym, plastic kayak rentals, and coffee from 6am to 8am)
  • Any other gimmicks? Do you get ripped off with food options since it's a isolated venue?
  • Is it worth it? Any insights appreciated
