Salvage Title ‘87 325Ci Value?

PICTURES BUGGED, POSTED IN COMMENTS

Hey guys,

I’m thinking of bidding on this ‘87 325ci, thoughts on its value? It’s in immaculate condition with a very good condition interior, borderline perfect paint (likely resprayed), 5spd, runs perfectly, all with an uncracked dash. Only caveats being is it’s a vert which I’m not too keen on as I prefer coupes, but I can live with it give how good everything else is. Lastly, it’s unfortunately a salvage title.

After doing a full inspection, no weird electrical, nothing standoutish in the negative sense, top works fine (manual top), underbelly looks good with no rust, same for fenders and trunk area, oil-pan uncracked, etc. Only thing that threw me off is that when I did the stomp-test it which I chalked up to it being at that 87-88 facelift limbo period.

I do have a ‘90 325i 2D which I can have this be a parts donor for, but ideally if everything checks out I’ll just keep both. The ‘90 is a sentimental project so it’s a money pit and I don’t see the point in mutilating one good car to make two mid cars. Worst comes to worse, I will part it out and donate the Getrag & a few bodypanels to the ‘90, and maybe swap in the seats. Mine are in good condition but they’re cloth sports so I’d enjoy leather a fair bit more.

Thoughts? And if possible, what would the value be if it was unsalvaged?

Rear Sway Bar Link torque specs?

Hey guys, just changed out my rear sway bar links as the old rubber was basically fossilized and one wasnt even connected (bolt was straightup gone). Got everything on last night but couldn’t find a straight answer for the torque specs with different answers such 50ftlbs, 30ftlbs, 20ftlbs, and 15ftlbs wherever I looked.

I torqued the nut and bolt to 20ftlbs under load as that seemed about right based on garagistic’s list saying 16 and the metal being too thin to support more than 30 IMO, so I pushed it a bit higher to be on the safe side.

The thing is, garagistics list didn’t specifically say that 16ftlbs was for the links, only for the trailing arm to sway bar which don’t directly connect. I’m guessing the 16ftlbs is accurate and it’s simply an oversight but I’d just like to confirm here.

If it matters, its a 1990 325i, and thanks in advance!
