Feeling kinda butthurt

So!!! We have a heeler mix pup.

Originally a stray (their mom) had wandered onto our property and we started taking care of her. She is probably a heeler/pit mix but she was definitely abused and scared of people. She's terrified of thunderstorms and loud noises in general( alot of people where we live like to shoot off their guns for funsies) it has taken us a year to get her to trust us and she's been staying in the house finally. Well she got knocked up in October ,no idea who the dad is. We were planning on getting her fixed before hand but trying to work with her using a leash has been tough. But we're working on it. Anyways she ended up having the pups and three made it. Initially they all went to good homes and one of them went to a good friend who was planning on getting her trained to be a service dog.

Long story short it didn't work out so I took her back. Part of it felt like a weird meant to be sort of thing since we just lost my old gal in March of 2025 who was also a heeler. It was super heartbreaking having her pass,so this just felt right. Helping a stray and keeping the pup.

My dad and I used to raise German shepherds together. I've had numerous dogs before growing up. I'm not too unfamiliar with dog training though maybe it's a bit outdated.

Pup is about 6-7 months old. She loves to counter surf ,tries to get into the trash and has a wild affinity for mushrooms that have been popping up on our property ,moreso because of the rain. I joined the poison/toxic mushrooms group on FB to identify. And yes I've posted like 3 times in less than four months. All have been non toxic thankfully. But one of the mods kind of made me feel bad and noted on the frequency of my posting on there.

She knows drop it and leave it but isn't always consistent. For the most part everyone on the house ( we live with my elderly parents ) knows not to leave anything on the kitchen counters and we've been doing pretty good with a few mistakes here and there. I've got a baby latch on the trash can.

I don't know I guess I'm just venting . It's frustrating at times ,and I know this is the hardest part of raising a dog but I guess that mod just kinda pissed me off. She's not perfect but she's generally pretty well behaved otherwise ....

Am I a bad dog mom? What am I doing wrong... Any tips??? 😔

I'll post some photos of my demon child 😜
