Trying to find an old animated series about a family in a forest and a train 2014s/2015s
I’m trying to find an old animated series I watched as a child, and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. I found it by accident while switching through channels, so I don’t know what channel it was on
Here’s what I remember: The art style was more realistic, not exaggerated like typical anime. It felt similar to older European-style animation or something like Les Misérables. The story takes place in a large wooden house in the middle of a forest. There is a big extended family living together: A strict, cold father who didn’t show much emotion and didn’t allow the children to leave. Around five children (some teenagers). An aunt living with them as well, along with her husband and their children. There is a railway very close to the house. The train looked old, very long, and it was important because it seemed like the only way to reach a nearby city. The nearby city was much more modern (cars, developed), while their life in the forest felt older and isolated.
Important plot points: One of the sons (a teenager) is the main focus. He has a little sister (around 7 years old) that he deeply cares about and wants to take with him if he leaves. The children are not allowed to go to the city. A large forest fire starts at some point. The father refuses to leave, saying the fire won’t reach them. The fire becomes a major turning point in the story. The overall tone was serious, heavy, and not like a typical kids cartoon.
