Unpopular Opinion: Why I’m Voting for Rod as a Frisco Parent

Hey everyone, saw that there have been a lot of disparaging comments about Rod Vilhauer on this forum, so I decided to share my perspective.

Before the May election, I didn’t think my individual vote would matter. But now that we’ve pushed this race to a runoff, it’s clear lots of us in Frisco are ready for change. In just the past two weeks, I’ve talked to lots of other Frisco parents who skipped the first round but now plan to show up and vote for Rod. I know more of you are out there and the momentum is happening.

As always, local politics gets toxic fast—just look at the ads against Rod in our Community Impact paper. Whoever wins, the other side will have assumptions about them, but I think we all want peace in our community regardless of the outcome. This isn't a vote based on hate or division, but about moving past complacency for a better Frisco.

If you want a change in direction for Frisco, Rod is the candidate who is against the current system. Here’s why I voted and will vote again for Rod on 6/13:

• Taxes: He will make better use of our tax dollars and ultimately lower them for residents, specifically by attracting corporate talent and headquarters.

• Infrastructure: He focuses on better roads and infrastructure capacity, not just adding more parks and tourism. Let’s walk before we run.

• Fiscal Integrity: He is the only candidate speaking out against fraud that drains our local and federal tax dollars; even if mostly a state issue, we can still be a squeaky wheel.

• Smart Development: He understands the math behind housing, rents, and why we are overbuilding millions of square feet of office space. I see a reckoning coming and don’t understand these empty suites.

• Cultural Preservation: He is taking a firm stand on maintaining our local community standards and preventing the “acceptance” push seen in neighboring cities like Wylie. I see what’s happening in the schools, and while my kids are too young to be impacted by their friend groups today, it speaks to the current trends.

I do have a few Indian friends and neighbors—some of whom are actually voting for Rod. They tend to agree that some bad apples are spoiling the whole bunch; while some candidates are willing to speak out on these tough topics, others choose to defend and look the other way.

Hope we can keep the comments respectful. I feel like I speak for many of us in Frisco. See you at the polls on June 13!

Note: If you aren’t from Frisco, no need for you to chime in. But hope you enjoy our parks!!
