Unpopular Opinion: Nekota deserved to be someone’s first choice

Man, I felt legit bad for Nekota the whole flashback arc. The more I think about it, the more it feels like he was never really her first choice.

That goodbye scene between Yuki and Kamogawa pretty much says it all. She was clearly about to pour her heart out and confess, and he just shuts it down and hits her with the “I love boxing more than anything” line. Like... bro. That was a rejection, even if he didn’t mean it to be one.

And then what happens? She ends up with Nekota.

Idk, maybe I’m alone on this but it always felt a little off to me. Imagine loving someone with your whole chest, but deep down you know she probably wanted the other guy first. That shit has to eat at you sometimes, right?

What makes it worse is that Nekota is actually such a good dude. Loyal as hell, kind, emotionally open, always showing up for people. He never got petty, never tried to compete with Kamogawa, never turned bitter. Even after everything life threw at him, he stayed warm and genuine. Dude didn’t deserve to feel like the backup option.

I’m not saying Yuki was wrong or using him or anything. Feelings are messy. Sometimes timing sucks, sometimes the person you want can’t give you what you need, people move on. That’s life. But still… Nekota deserved to be someone’s first choice. Not the safe, steady guy she turned to after getting her heart stepped on.

The more I sit with it, the more straight-up tragic his whole character feels.

Edit;- Well I got my answer, Nekota had time to move on but he didn't, I don't feel bad for him anymore, he got what he wanted(to be there for her), now feeling bad for yuki lol.
