Alright, new to the song side of this, but been writing for years, sad to say this took 13 years to get to this point. And I think it may be done. Still learning guitar but I feel a bluesy kinda thing to it. Be brutally honest, it’s what I want. Open criticism.
That Freckle in Your Eye
There’s a spot on your eye, most folks’d never see
Little fleck of gold, like it was hid for me
Not loud like the sunrise, not wild like the sea
Just a quiet kind of magic, sittin’ where it oughta be
Didn’t shout for attention, didn’t beg to be found
But it held my whole world when you looked around
That freckle in your eye, yeah it outshined the stars
Like a firefly flicker in the dark of my heart
Like a lone church light on a back dirt road
Like a spark in the night when the cold wind blows
Now every sky’s too empty, every dream runs dry
‘Cause I ain’t seen heaven since that freckle in your eye
It was small like a raindrop on a window pane
Like a penny heads-up in the pourin’ rain
Like a coal burnin’ low when the fire’s gone dim
But it warmed up my soul every time you’d grin
Yeah the world’s full of wonders, but none of ‘em stay
Like that little piece of forever driftin’ away
That freckle in your eye, yeah it outshined the stars
Like a lighthouse glow when you’re lost too far
Like a match struck quick in the dead of night
Like a preacher’s truth in a barroom fight
Now every road’s too lonely, every mile runs wide
‘Cause I ain’t seen heaven since that freckle in your eye
Now I search in the skyline, every shimmer and spark
In the bourbon reflection, in the glass in the dark
But the world don’t shine like it used to do
It all lost its color when I lost you
That freckle in your eye, yeah it outshined the stars
Like a last call song on a worn-out guitar
Like a whispered prayer that you don’t say twice
Like a roll of the dice that lands just right
Now every night’s a shadow, every dawn’s a lie
‘Cause I ain’t seen heaven since that freckle in your eye
Yeah it’s funny what you miss when it’s gone for good
A little speck of light nobody understood
But to me it was everything I can’t deny…
That freckle in your eye… yeah, that freckle in your eye.
