Coccyx Wound
Background: 6 years ago I (22ftm) developed a pilonidal cyst I was entirely unaware of until it burst. Soon after, I went to my gp to discuss the perfectly circular hole it had left behind. I was diagnosed with pilonidal disease and sent for surgery, which had packing as the recovery care. Wound showed signs of good healing until the final stretch in which it entirely reopened itself and I had to get it operated on again. The fistula tracts were incredibly deep and resulted in the second surgery failing as well. Changed surgeons, had 2 more operations with stitches this time. Both failed. Had the wound cauterized 6 times with silver nitrate. Failed. Had a 5th surgery in July of 2024 with colorectal and had all tracts successfully removed, but the stitches still reopened during recovery. Ever since, I have been left with a gaping wound which has been varying sizes over the course of time. It is incredibly painful and prone to infection, of which I have been on several different types of antibiotics for. My body is unable to heal itself, whether due to how much scar tissue I have developed or some immune condition I am unaware of. I see a wound care nurse every week, and she has treated me with a whole slew of things ranging from collagen to hydrofera blue. None of it works. The wound tears itself open regularly and bleeds excessively. My life has been ruined by this thing as I am incredibly fatigued and sick on the regular. I have the opportunity to pursue plastic surgery, and while I have discussed this with my nurse, I wanted some other opinions as well. Would skin grafting help me at all?? I've been cursed with this for 6 long years and want it to end
