Who saw the 1976 King Kong in theaters?

Millennial here. I just watched this version of King Kong at home and thought it was a blast. Not as impressive or frightening as the 1933 original, but great entertainment nonetheless. For people who saw this one in theaters, how was the experience? Seems like there was quite a massive PR/ad campaign for it, with tons of merchandising and events, pre-Star Wars. Was Kong a big deal at the time?

EDIT: Sorry for multiple posts. My wireless sucks. I deleted the other two.

Stacy Haiduk as Lana Lang in Superboy TV series

Stacy played the definitive Lana Lang IMO, appearing in all 100 episodes of Superboy. She also played Lieutenant Hitchcock on SeaQuest and Kristen DiMera on Days Of Our Lives. A TV queen!

Was "Paul is dead" more of an urban legend/meme/joke, or did some people really believe it? Was it easier to fall for something like that before the internet?
