Dangerous PHV Driver on the road

Today, at the car park, a PHV driver decided to behave in a way that was honestly quite disgraceful and dangerous.

My 4 year old son and I were at the sheltered pick up drop off area. As taught, he stopped first, looked out for cars, and we noticed a vehicle turning in. Naturally, we waited, assuming the driver would either park properly or signal for us to cross after.

Instead, the driver drove the car directly towards my child, inch by inch, braking repeatedly right in front of him. I had to immediately pull my son aside in case this person miscalculated and actually hit him.

And after all that, he still had the cheek to flash the middle finger.

Let me be very clear. This was not confusion. This was not poor driving. This was a grown adult using a vehicle to intimidate a small child and parent in a residential car park.

The fact that this was a PHV driver makes it even worse. If you are entrusted to transport members of the public, surely basic judgement, patience and decency should come as standard.

We live in a society where children are taught to stop, look, and be careful. What exactly are we teaching them when adults behind the wheel behave like this?

To this driver: if your ego is so fragile that you need to challenge a 4 year old at a crossing, perhaps you should reconsider whether driving for a living is really for you. less

1st Edition: For better context, the photo was taken after I moved away. The driver’s door ended up exactly where I had been standing. He forced us out of that spot and parked there. I had already moved my son up onto the curb on the other side of the road for safety. His egregious behaviour made me turn back and take a photo of him and the car. This was not just a discourteous driver.
