For anyone that has dealt with an employer that hasn’t offer them before, is there anything that has convinced them to go ahead with it for you.

I’ve only sent emails for now, but have only received 1 email back that stated it’s not something we generally offer, but I will forward to the parent company for advice. The HR manager is in another location at head office.

I wasn’t given a no, and I haven’t been pushy on the matter. But 6 weeks later and a few emails from my end I’m still no better informed than the day following my original email. With good news on the budget yesterday, I’d like to progress the situation if it’s available while I wait for my preferred EV (on paper at least) to be released later this year.

I can afford to buy with cash from redraw and selling my ICE car, but a NL will save me a lot.

Any thoughts? Obviously a quick phone call, but I’m not in a hurry or wanting to be pushy.

What’s your reaction if you walked out your door or roller door and seen this?

I drive a similar truck that is 12m long and I’m trying to be a better person when making a delivery to suburban renovations. Not my house, not the builder, just a driver for a supply company.

After discussing in another group, my actions in order will be as follows.

  1. If at all possible don’t block any driveway or street access
  2. If there is no answer, leave the sign in their driveway, set up and start delivering.
  3. Be prepared to move the truck once made safe, to allow neighbour to exit before continuing to unload.

If I have attempted to knock but you haven’t heard me, would the sign allow you to calmly walk over as it explains, I’m willing to move.

Is there something else I can do to diffuse a situation before it starts?

Edit : thanks all for your thoughtful comments. The actions will be implemented by me. If you see my sign in your Greater Hobart area driveway it’s me. Thanks for your understanding. I’ll get you moving as soon as I can. If it’s not me, call the driver over and ask him nicely if he can make the truck safe to move and let you out. If you see a builder next door, introduce yourself and see if there might be complications for your parking situation. If they are likely, building a rapport may help you or he may suggest moving your car from the driveway before 7am while deliveries are expected. They’re not the enemy.

See you on the roads of Hobart. 👍

So I work as a truck driver delivering steel to construction sites and home renovations. The truck is as long as a bus with a front mounted crane. While I will always attempt to park in a clients driveway, often in the suburbs it’s on the street, trying to fit between parked cars and power poles etc.

Today I had 2 run ins with neighbours in well to do suburbs. Positioning the truck is everything to get best reach especially with heavier packs of steel. Generally in these suburbs there’s 5 or more houses in every street improving their property by adding more rooms in the back yard. Grass is no longer a requirement when land costs so much.

1st customer complaint today was being a Karen with me 1/4 parked over their driveway. There was still room for a reasonable driver to reverse out without hitting my truck. She waited 5 minutes since she first came out until I could move. As I was packing up, she said if you come again can I park my truck away from her driveway. I was nice and apologised for her trouble.

2nd customer was a older male Karen who clearly had a beef with his neighbour. I was parked in our customers driveway next to a giant 2 storey brick wall at the absolute edge of his property to block the view from 2 storey unit windows. A valid concern with a horrible solution in my opinion. Each to their own. While starting to unload adjacent to the front deck, he sneered about the noise and more or less told me to be quick and get going.

Can’t help the response from the 2nd one, but I’d love to hear your thoughts about going on to a neighbours property to their door and politely asking if they need to move a car in the next 5 to 15 minutes while I park over their driveway. For all I know I may get their abuse for entering their front yard or I could be waking a baby or night shift worker. I’m always polite and do the job as quickly and safely as possible.

How would you react if I was parked slightly or more over your driveway or came to your door.

Edit : I’m a happy driver enjoying my portable office. Very little phases me unlike the Karen’s I sometimes meet.

The right answer appears to be our sales team should educate the builders to keep the neighbours happy by evaluating their site access and how a delivery would impact the neighbours. If there’s a chance a delivery will block a driveway, the builder should communicate with neighbours by flyer or door knock. A good builder will then ask to be contacted with a time and advise neighbours of a possible issue ahead of time.

The onus is on the builder to communicate with the neighbours potentially avoiding 99% of Karen’s. There will always be one.

Yes I’m a holder and bought in June on the way up. My bad.

Stats for 1 year and 5 years.

Bitcoin/AUD -26.76 %, +38.93%

BTC/USD -17.85% , +31.01%

S&P500 +29.11%, +78.79%

Gold/USD +38.01% , +161.87%

ASX200 +7.83% , +28.02%

Sure there is exchange risk and withholding tax on S&P500 and Gold but they have way over performed BTC if you are just holding. Chart is clean, year on year always going up. Plus Asx200 and S&P500 pay dividends.

With inflation at around 23% in Australia over 5 years and CGT of about 15%, you have barely won the game in the last 5 years if you bought 5 years ago and sold today. ASX200, you’ve lost money after inflation and CGT.

Yes, I bought high and need to think long term. But at today’s figures there are better investments out there that are stable improvers, rather than trading like a pro and selling the second the ATH is in or waiting another 4 years for a maybe.

Zoom out you say. Why, I don’t have a Time Machine to buy at 2011 prices.
