What did I do wrong?

What did I do wrong?

First attempt at gilding.

I sanded for about 5-7 minutes per side. Going from 80 all the way up to 400. Sealed it with a little beeswax while it was still hot.

Why is it cracking like this? I did two layers of foil, let it sit for 10 minutes, took it out of the clamp, fanned the pages and this happened. Added another layer and it happened again.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

SOLVED

After further experimenting and research, I’ve concluded that I wasn’t sanding thoroughly enough. I started with 80 grit, then 180 and finally 400. However, it seems you need to get a “mirror” finish on the paper edges before attempting to foil, which takes more sanding and a higher grit sandpaper )I’ve gone up to 1000 grit). I did not realize that you need the mirror finish on the paper before attempting to add foil, or that it was even possible to achieve this in the first place.

For clarification for those confused by the wording of my original post, I rubbed the beeswax on as a sealant directly after** **heat transferring the foil, not before.

Farseer Trilogy paper type/quality and binding?

I’m considering getting the Farseer Trilogy but am curious about the paper type and binding.

Is it acid free paper or just industry standard stocked groundwood? And is the binding glued or sewn?

Is there anywhere that offers this kind of service?

I need cut it into 11" sheets. Currently doing it by hand and it's a total pain in the ass, I just don't have the space to do it properly and it takes forever.

I called a local printer, Kelly Spicers, and explained the situation and the guy said he's never heard of such a service. Am I s.o.l.?

How is this possible? You could not have physically been faster.

Immediately refreshed the site, clicked the listing, added to cart hit checkout and l hit ApplePay and the site glitched and said it was sold out. Less than 10 seconds on my end.

I print my own custom dustjackets using my large format inkjet printer and coated matte paper that’s about 170gsm but am looking for paper that has that velvety, peach skin feel to it but don’t know what it’s called? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

After the latest Faithful and the Fallen delay notice this morning, I’m truly at the end of my rope with the quality control and customer facing elements of this company.

It appears they lied about the original delay in order to cover up their own ineptitude. The fact that they didn’t communicate properly with their printer is such an amateur mistake, but to then lie about it is next level bad business. Meanwhile they have the nerve to tease new “big updates 😎” and continue to charge my account with no delays.

A good company would sweeten the pot and make a peace offering to their loyal subscribers who give the money every month after so many delays and fuck ups. Free shipping is nice, but expected, after something like this. It’s the bare minimum if you ask me. They come across as super greedy, and really need to do more damage control than “free shipping, whenever we get around to shipping your books you paid for ages ago.”

People keep defending them, saying they’re still a new company and that new companies make mistakes etc...they should stop announcing new subs and books every week then!
