The R word is not for Autistic people to "reclaim"
I am so tired of seeing people try to "reclaim" a word that was never their word to reclaim. My brother and i are older than a lot of yall. He is diagnosed with mentally ret*rdation along with other things.
We never left the house as kids and teenagers without people calling him r word freak that should be locked away or killed, many threatened to do it themselves. They hated having to look at a disgusting r word. They hated their tax dollars supporting him when he should just be left to die. It was endless. I couldn't be friends with most kids because their parents were afraid of the r word and it being contagious. I was injured more than once trying to protect him from monsters determined to scream that word in his face.
You as an autistic person that was never diagnosed as MR have no right to use the word or to "reclaim" the word. You may have been called the r word, but it was never your diagnosis. The only people that could possibly reclaim the word are folks like my brother. You just want to be an offensive, edgelord.
