Waste gate Actuator Issues

2018 Jetta 1.4TSI

I’m having issues with my car sputtering and the EPC light coming on intermittently. Runs fine in cold

temps but spits and sputters when the weather is warm. Goes away when vehicle is warmed up. I believe part of the problem to be the waste gate actuator. The clevis and waste gate aren’t wallowed out. Doesn’t appear to have any rattle. The arm doesn’t seem to retract completely and has a lot of play. After I drive and then shut off/park - I can lightly bump the actuator and it will fully retract. I’m guessing that’s abnormal?

The issue I’m having is the first replacement seemed to be short by about 1/4 inch. I ordered a second one and the length is closer but seems to be longer by about an 1/8 inch.

My original actuator is loose and sloppy so I’m unsure of what the correct length should be, or how to even find that information. Does the electronic system account for any variation in rod length and adjust so the wastegate is in the correct position? Thanks.
